There is no such thing as a free lunch, for those who don't know.

We almost named our band TINSTAAFL years ago, but settled on Acrylyte - derived from cyanoacrylate , about as equally an awful name.

Well - ya know . . . Mods can delete this one if they like, but here we go.

I don't know who is to blame. ATA? Certain states?

I said before - Sun Lei , 30 years old, a Chinese national on an expired visitors visa (that's a tourist visa), killed 2 people in Republic, MO a few years back when he rammed 2 vehicles into the back of a stopped semi at a light in a 35 mph zone, running full speed.

How many things need to go wrong before that point? How did he get a CDL without being a citizen? Who hired him? Why was he even here? Why did things not change?

I'm not the smartest guy, but I'm pretty good at spotting FOBs (Fresh off the Boat)s. What I'm seeing is a lot of generic Freightliner Cascadias and Volvos , or Penske rental semis, with generic, minimal "Rising Sun" "Golden Dragon", "XYZ Logistics", "Global Transport" etc, with what looks like African - (I can tell the difference between African American and African African), and Asian drivers - that . . . .

Have no business being behind the wheel. Swerve all over the place, tailgate, no respect for any road user, no skills, no consideration, jabbering on the phone, typing on the phone while I'm passing/being passed - speeding, no CB radio or interest in communication, equipment violations easily seen. It seems to have gotten worse in the last few years. Just look at any truck pulling an Amazon trailer. You can't tell me that Amazon prime freight pays well enough to cover operating costs, profit to owner - and leave a driver with more than a minimum wage job.

Who is importing these folks? Who is issuing them CDLs? Who is giving them a truck to drive?

There's some huge gaps in the system. I don't have any answers. Just my observation.

upon further review.... you of course aren't required to be a citizen to get a license.

Again, you just hit the nail on the head. Bottom line.......CORRUPTION in government from top to bottom. Also, a very apparent two tiered justice system. They don't even try to hide it anymore.

Don't get me wrong. There's been plenty of meth'd up, drunk, no CDL carrying drivers - US born citizens that have killed people in wrecks. It's not a xenophobic racist rant. That'd be hilarious coming from an immigrant.

Corruption in government is simply a constant. I'm used to that.

I just want to answer the question of who and what is behind what I described as my observations.

Wait a minute - where? In Missouri which recently adopted REAL ID requirements, proof of legal citizenship is required, and hazmat requires at least green card status. Who is giving out CDL licenses without proof of citizenship?

I had a CDL for at least 10 years before becoming a citizen. Legal resident, yes, citizen, no.
