It is a system that was sold to the fmcsa and the states to centralize licenses, but the system has a segment for titles which has been an absolute nightmare for some when the system marked the title salvage.

All that happened was I got pulled in for a DOT inspection at a weigh station for a level 2. They ran my license inside and notified me of this inconsistency. I had no idea, my carrier had no idea, and my license still looked good even when they looked into it after this happened when trying to figure out why I would be put OOS. As I stated, my license, med card, and clearinghouse, everything, is all in good standing. The DOT and DMV confirmed all of that after the fact, but I already knew this.

The only way I can think of to safeguard against this, or check your own as a precaution, is to have the DOT check your license for its commercial status. I wouldn't ask while in a truck, because you'll probably trigger an inspection along with the check, but it might not hurt to drive up to your nearest home weigh station while it's open in a 4-wheeler to ask for a license check in CDLIS. No idea if they'll help you with that or not, though. CDLIS is apparently only accessible by government officials. My carrier was not able to see the information that put me OOS, and I had to speak with a special department in the DMV (on the phone for hours) to even talk to the right people to get it fixed. Only those people within that specific DMV department could even see this information also. This might be different with different state DMV's, though, but that was my experience.

This was basically just a DMV error because someone wasn't doing their job. The sick part is that this little error could've put me in jail if I had been in any sort of accident. I should probably be more pissed off than I am, but my main concern is just getting back on the road. I also know that getting aggressive over the phone with people who had nothing to do with making this error won't help me any.

Hello, I’m from the government, and I’m here to help. Don’t worry, I know what we need. Paperwork. It will fix all problems, globally, permanently. I’ll just run the system on this equipment we got from the lowest contract bidder… and you’re all out of service. This problem will be resolved in the next 10-20 months.

That sounds about right. I appreciate your input. The DOT informed me that this error could've put me in jail had I been in any sort of accident and had my license ran afterwards. I guess it's true that things can go wrong even when you're doing everything right. These organizations are supposed to be so important to road safety & security, yet they seem underfunded, understaffed, and the databases are running on outdated software or hardware. It's a joke that isn't funny.

A NJ centric news radio station had a morning man who constantly tried to find answers to some NJ MVC problems.

Some of the items he found were kinda shocking, he was hunting down a rash of people who became aware of their suspended driver license status while pulled over by an LEO.

People reported receiving mail notice form the MVC a good month, or so, after the suspension went into effect which had a bunch of people calling into the radio station.

Everyone has seen the large mail containers on wheels behind the counter at the post office.

Turns out they didn't mail them until one of those 'hampers' @ MVC was full when it took a few weeks to fill them.

    Government efficiency IS an oxymoron!
