Need hangers under the box. Mine are mounted using 2 large L brackets made from 2x3 C-Channel mounted about 12" in from each end and attached to the frame with 2 1" bolts on each bracket. I also have bolts running through the back of each box near the top that go to either a bracket welded to the hangers or through parts of the suspension mounts for my front drive axle. Where the upper bolts go through the box I had to have them reinforced inside with 1/2" aluminum plates. I had the bolts pull through the back of my passenger side box once. If your boxes are short enough you might be able to get away with angle iron hangers on each end of the box.
For boxes up to 18" something like: Tool Boxes - Magnum Trailer and Equipment Inc. Anything from 18 to 30" something like: Steel Truck Box Mounting Brackets | Buyers Products If you build your own then consider adding a 1X2" C channel welded across about 8" from the back to help support the weight of the chains in the middle. This should be done for any box over 30" that has chain in it and goes off road. A buddy of mine lost 4 3/8 chains to a split seam in a box north of Watson Lake YK.
what about mounting something on the front of your trailer just like a bulkhead... iseen some daycabs that running flatbed they have a headache rack mounted on the bulkhead.. im not sure if it would work with a lowboy but its an idea
Without reinventing fire(they did that a few weeks ago)..... does anyone make a metal platform that would fit across the width of the catwalk, over the frame of a 2019 Freightliner that can support the weight of 8 chains and secure (both for anti theft and safety)? The width of the existing catwalk isn't enough without leaving chain hanging over the edge or putting too much weight over the center.
I was talking to a flatbed driver the other day and idont know how true this is but he was saying at the iowa 80 truckstop they are selling boxes that fit down inside the frame in the catwalk, that have a tunnell to fit over the driveshaft and the boxes fit inside the frame rails there and can lock em . he said he ordered one for his kenworth, the way he was talking about it, it sounded pretty cool..
