Best advice is to make sure trailer holds the proper temps....hot loads can be a nightmare for everyone

I always carry a extra set of shoes for trailer use, keep them in my side box just because I do not want to get in the truck with them on.

Keep your gloves you may need them and never touch anything when hauling frozen with bare hands, you may find it unpleasant when your hand is stuck to frozen metal.

I also miss the 359 that i drove back in the 90's, never drove a 379, and i agree that a coe will always out maneuver a conventional. also was getting mid 6 to low 7's mpg in a '88 farmall that i was driving...

I hated the one I got stuck driving for a few weeks. The storage SUCKS. the way the cabnets are made you lose so much space. And the layout sucks also. the only thing I did like about it was the work drawer.....I can fit so much more in my classic that I could not in that cassjunk

 

Don't forget to find out if the trailer needs to be pre-cooled or not, and check the trailer wash out requirements as well. There are a few places out there that require you to wash the trailer out before you can load, and there are some loads that you will want to wash the trailer out after anyway (chicken comes to mind on that one). Get some cheap coffee to keep on hand, as it's great for pulling odors out of a trailer.

Another tip is to locate the code charts for the reefer units that you will see the most with the company you drive for. Those are handy to have, so that if your reefer unit throws a code, you can see if it's something that needs to be dealt with immediately or can wait until later. If your company doesn't have them, you can get them online from the manufacturers of the various units.

 

I keep a can of coffee and a package of 10 panty hose in my truck for tossing into the trailer. Easier to keep that mess clean that way. You can make a coffee deodorizer and just toss it in the back of the trailer and leave it if you need to. No muss, no fuss.

 

Like the panty hose trick! I'll have to pass that on to the hubby!
