Cheating is a losing business these days, if you cross the Knoxville Scales a variety of scanners has already captured your rig. If you hit another scale outside of your 11 hours that is communicating with Knoxville, they are going to yank you around back.
Satellite comms ensure that the truck is pegged (Particularly after Bill Clinton disallowed vague GPS signals) to within a dozen feet at all times. You might not know it, but someone somewhere will.
Im off the road for good and Im ok with talking a little bit of bad logs. But again the way things are going is going to get you hurt financially and maybe lose your freedom in certain situations. The way the Internet is leaning being admissible in courts and such in the future, Im even less inclined to explain the particulars of burning logs.
Trucking school taught you how to work a paper log. Your first trainer taught you how to work the world around that log. You will be checked for your work to be accurate when DOT is standing on your fuel tank wherever and whenever it may be. Ive been inspected many times to a literal last hour of my 70 hour work week on the road and the DOT man knows #### well by the bags under my eyes and the laundry bag piled over in the corner that it's time for me to take a day off. But he must let me go because my hour is still valid and he is holding me up. Customer is waiting.
The best people get the job done without cheating. That means standing up to dispatch and be professional about it. If you are dispatched to deliver something due 5 hours ago with a appointment date and time plucked from fantasy, you refuse the load and state your case after a few moments trip planning to prove you cannot get there on time.
You will also learn what is costly time wise. Fighting to park a 18 wheeler for 45 minutes to make a phone call that might have you on hold a half hour and then face rush hour to get out of the city... forget it.
I leave you with this thought.
Keep that left door shut. Do not lie, cheat or steal. With that said, the customer must always be kept taken care of or no one including you will still have a paycheck.RookieJ1987 Thanks this. -
