I tried searching some of the other threads regarding good/bad companies, anyone have any insight on Chicago intermodal transportation? They are advertising Local/Regional positions at a decent rate for owner operators. Just curious if anyone had any feedback.

Well, I may be a bit out of the loop, but I hauled rail cans out of Chicago late 80s/early 90s, during it's infancy, and even still, I did okay. Containers go all over, say 500 mile radius of Chicago, and almost guarantees at least some home time. Biggest change, was tubeless tires. Not sure if all chassis have tubeless now, the old Z vans are long gone. I had my truck leased to a company in Green Bay, and lived near Madison, and got home almost every day. Not sure about rates today, and if I was to do it again, I'd get my own spread axle aluminum chassis and just do live pick/drops. Be advised, some ball busters go on the rail, and overloads are common. I think rail is the next big thing, as companies can't fill OTR seats, the rail and regional trucking has always been a viable option. Caution on who to go on with, some shady outfits in the Windy, but some good ones too. We have a sharp member here that can help you with companies, Chinatown, and your location is important. Rail is going to be big, look at all those container ships, they hold 10,000+ containers and there are 500 of those ships! Sounds like job security to me, AND, you are never far from home, another huge plus. I'd check out Green Bay/Fox Valley, as a lot of paper goes by rail out of Chicago. If I were you, get on with a Walmart deal, THAT would be sweet. I read JB Hunt signed a deal with Sam, and plans to put 150,000 units on the rail by 2027. They will have to have O/O as there's no way they can handle that kind of increase with drivers off the street. They can't handle it now. Check into JB, we used to pick on those drivers, but I'm telling ya', who is laughing now? . Good luck.
