OK so the prelims are done & was officially hired last week. Getting ready to head out with my first load...a kinda shakedown run to K.C. area. Wanted me to ease into it I guess since this will be my first time pulling a tanker. Lot of stuff thrown at me during hands on training, but pretty sure it's OK. .... will just have to take extra time to do everything. Hopefully................................

You went milage pay huh? What are the trucks governed at? Are you running a pete
-
Don't worry, you will do fine. Most places you will go, they will do all the work for you. The company I started hauling chemicals with out of the chicago area, "Heniff" didn't teach me crap. My first time at a customer unloading chemicals had me thinking to myself like, dam I wish I had a trainer. Customer was asking me did I have a 3 inch to 2 or 2 inch to 3 and I'm looking in my tool box at all my fitting thinking to myself, what the heck is he talking about. I got a crash course over the phone by another driver on how to off load and properly blow down. Good luck with your new company. Drive safe. Remember, help is a phone call away.realsupatrucka and Reverend Falstaff Thank this.

Yep...got a Pete. Smaller than I was used to, with less storage, but will adjust. Seems like 70 is about as fast as I can get it to go, which is just fine with me. And yes I did go mileage pay to start; but seeing as they put the rate on the dispatch sheet, will watch and see. They let us switch between mileage & pct. In January and July.

You guys will truly enjoy hauling tankers. I've loaded side by side with sweet looking Pete's from CC Cob. All waste chemicals, used oil, used antifreeze etc. And as mentioned above, the shipper and/or receiver will do most, if not all the work including rinse in many cases. All you would mostly have to do is vent your tanks, connect/disconnect hoses etc. Just make sure you guys carry good PPE. Tyveks, chemical resistant steel toe boots, neoprene gloves, face shield/safety glasses, respirator and ear protection.
Reverend Falstaff and realsupatrucka Thank this. -
i live close to charlotte,nc. and the recruiter told me % only and not cpm pay. that's the reason i didn't go with cc, i've been down the % road with heniff and i won't do that again.

Well the 1st load was delivered today. All I had to do was air it off, which wasn't a big deal. But between the fact I went from a job where I didn't have to do hardly any manual labor to this where I did the hooking and hauling of hose (not a lot...I'm not complaining) to the fact that the surge pretty much hammered my buttocks (never pulled tank before remember); I'm just a leeeeeetle sore for a almost 52 year old dog trying to learn this new trick. But figure will get it before long (other than doing all the accelerating and decelerating real slow is there a magic bullet for minimizing surge? Was trying to time my shifting to mixed results)

They issued the PPE right day before I got first dispatch; just have to get the steel toe boots.
