Man guilty in semi crash that killed two near Republic

Check this one out. Close to home.

Guy was on a 90 day temporary visitor visa, yet is in a semi, issued with a CDL by CALIFORNIA.

I was infuriated at the time. Nobody really cared, yet here we are, 7 years later - only difference is Kim Kardashian opened her trap?

I didn't mean for this to go this deep. Personally I like the dialogue. But to remind every one. I just couldn't believe what my mothers friend was saying. It didn't make since. And since I didn't know squat about it. I did figure I would come here and ask. I'm glad I did.
Huge soprano fan. Sucks that man died in real life. Apparently he was loved by every one around him. And to play his alter ego on t.v was impressive.
I hope I don't ever end up in the position that driver was in. So I will ask. When or how do I know when to ditch the truck. I really don't know.
I have dropped motorcycles a mini van and a e150 cargo van. To avoid foolish ness. But I'm not sure I would know the signs in the truck. Any advice would be great.

About 7 years ago several trucking schools in California were shut down for bribing DMV employees and getting over 1,000 CDL's issued fraudulently. The drivers paid minimum $5,000 each to get CDL's without school or taking the DMV test. The school owners went to prison as did some DMV employees. In a single day, over 1,000 CDL's were invalidated. This guy may have been one of them.

I’ll admit to you - I got my CDL in MO in 2004 in a school that was shut down later on, and my license revoked.

That’s why I have mixed feelings on this topic.

You are an odd bird - at least with what you post on here.

I thought for the longest time you were a troll, or time waster, with some of the threads you create.

Somebody else posted it - but the question you ask every time you climb in the saddle - is “Are you willing to sacrifice your life to save others?”

I hope you, nor I , are faced with the decision. It happens quickly.

Much of it is avoidable by defensive driving habits.

Bottom line - you take every other option available that doesn’t involve the school bus, stopped traffic, or any innocent lives that did NOT contribute to the situation.

Why the mixed feelings? I take it that after your license was revoked you had to re-take the driving test and pass it? If so, you shouldn't have any mixed feelings. Anybody who knowingly pays money to get a CDL without going through the process is guilty of a crime, as are the people who allowed it to happen. I have no mixed feelings about that.

Had a guy in my driving class that tried to pay his way for CDL. He went through school on his own money like I did but was his 3rd try. Still could not drive and pass the test. He was totally upset that he paid all this money and they would not just pass him. Sure he found some other school that would take his money and pass no problem. He was from someplace out of Africa and could barely speak any English.

I wasn’t aware there was $ changing hands at the time.

Yes, I had to completely re-sit the test, almost blew the employment opportunity at the time. Long story, but with hazmat and citizenship involved, it was a mess.

This guy, could have been me.

I didn’t realize at the time what was going on as an immigrant, and eventually the law caught up to the scheme - almost 4 years later.

Schools in Illinois and other states went down about the same time.

Though I am a naturalized citizen now, I now know what I know now.

That is why I have mixed feelings, and really have no place or right to an opinion on this tragedy.
