Good Lord. Where in what I said did I suggest that? I'm simply talking about mark-up percentages. I would have happily shelled out 3 or even 4 dollars for the convenience.

But I will agree they are pricing themselves out of a lot of sales with their ridiculous sticker prices on grocery and sundrie items. Ever priced a small roll of paper towels? And all of the big three chains are the same.

Yeah. You are right. From now on my base rate will be set at $22/mile as I'm sure every shipper in America will agree with you and not bother looking for a cheaper carrier. Thanks to your insight I"'ll be in that new W9 in no time.

They get plenty of business on that stuff but not mine. I don't even look at their prices anymore (or TA or Pilot-J). The most they get out of me for anything grocery type is 3 bucks for two Powerade when I am caught low on it. But if they did have good prices, they'd have a lot more work to do taking deliveries and stocking shelves. Maybe they'd rather have the higher margins on fewer sales.

I agree that prices of parts and supplies on the road can be outrageous.

Maybe you can use this as a learning experience now that you know what they charge.

If you think you need 20 protectors, keep 30 with you. If you need 10 straps, carry 20.. and so on.

I don’t like to spend $5-700 on a road call to change a tire. Therefore I carry a spare, a jack and all the tools to change it myself.

You’ll easily forget the times you were too prepared, but regret the times you were unprepared.

Just like Loves can sell you that piece of plastic at a high price to get you by in an emergency, I’m sure you can find a customer that has an emergency load to get delivered that will pay you whatever you ask.

There’s the correlation. Now do you understand?

    Crossbones,
I guess you should be charged for dropping your trailer just so you can go and save on fuel down the road? If you can save so much just take your whole rig with you and leave the valued parking space for someone who really might appreciate Loves. Don't complain about Loves but then use them for your advantage.

I think if Apu had enough room to get a trailer in we would all be lined up at his BP station.

Invest in a 3D printer for $500 bucks and make your own protectors and straps for pennies on the dollar.

A buddy of mine, another long time REAL DRIVER, called me this morning to vent about truck drivers.
He went into the restroom at Loves and it was a total disaster.
    *Two toilets clogged
*One had the seat lined with the last guys makeshift butt gasket with a half roll of paper that he just left on the seat.
^The next looked like someone on a colonoscopy prep didn't quite make it, and exploded all over the wall and porcelain. JUST LEFT IT.
*The guy at the sink when he came in had no shirt on and was taking a bird bath... washing his head.. hacking and spitting.. shaving.
Needless to say, he left a terrible mess on the counter and just walked out.

It's like this in every truck stop.

    Trash thrown everywhere.
    Tires and pallets dumped.
    General lowlife behaviour.

I don't really blame them for charging what they do.
Look at that they put up with.

I'm ashamed to be looped into this crowd most of the time.

Except today. Payday is really nice where I work.
