This thread has been derailed a very long time ago btw. Just like nearly all threads I see here on TTR. They start off great but quickly morph into other discussions. Sometimes they return to their intended subject. There's an ebb and flow I've noticed. -
Yeah I try to stay away from the spoon feeders, it's just been a long time since I was in history class not trying to make excuses I really should update my mental files before I start spewing diarrhea of the mouth. Like that guy that everyone knows at their favorite watering hole

I read a book about Magellan's circumnavigation of the globe. 500 years ago the world was very different from today. The sailors back then were poor people who would sign on to a ship to go to the East and come back to Europe with spices. They each got a percentage of the load upon return. Couple of those trips and they could retire semi wealthy.
Back then as well, all the governments in the countries of Europe were monarchies; the kings and queens were actually believed to be descended from god. So the captain would sail under the protection and authority of the crown, charged with spreading Catholicism, and bringing back wealth.
It would take an extreme amount of intestinal fortitude to agree to sail westward toward the end of the earth, into the unknown. In Magellan's time one of the ships turned back for home somewhere around Brazil and years later when the last surviving ship from the fleet completed its worldwide tour, those sailors who had come back claiming all the others were lost at sea were believed to have been hanged. I mean there was a point where that last ship was adrift in the hot seas with no winds for weeks, running out of food and water and truck drivers complain about being stuck in a truckstop over a holiday weekend with no load with a company dashcam pointed at their sleeper lol.Vero_Responds Thanks this. -
The way I see it is those who complain about it yet do nothing to correct the situation are the reason why we seriously need to bring back Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection in full force. It's like those who complain about the country but don't vote or only vote for the Presidents. Our future is determined by our actions, not words.
