Do you have a source to back up these "real facts" you're laying down?

i work for a local construction company driving dump trucks. they have several dump trucks that are automatics, my truck thank fully is not an automatic. i have a 8 speed eaton manual with deep reduction. i had to slip seat one day into a truck that was an automatic, it was kind of nice but just felt like driving an oversized pickup truck. shifting is truckin and if you arent shifting you arent trucking.

the fleet is probably 60% manuals with some automatics. give me a manual and im happy. automatics are too easy, i like the challenge.

as far as GPS yes i use a GPS, sygic truck its on google playstore and has all of the restrictions and bridge clearances. in a dump truck clearences arent AS much of an issue but it still can be. i have it set for 12' which gives me a margin of error. sygic truck works well but i still dont follow it blindly. my driving is all local so i know allot (but not all) of the roads. i punch it into the GPS and look to see where it is taking me before i drive. you cant follow it blindly. there are stories of guys doing such a thing and ending up where a CMV should never go.

I'm impressed the new auto in my frightliner does its own thing pulling my 140K gross up snow covered grades without slipping at all. I guess some drivers feel emasculated not having the big stick when 10 4ing their good buddies.
Been at this 38 years and the auto is the epitome of laziness!
