Back when I thought about becoming a flatbed truck driver, I made a mock 90 lb tarp out of sandbags, a poly tarp, and duct tape. I practiced hoisting it up onto my shoulder and walked with it to the end of the driveway and back. When that started to become easier, I added 5 lbs of sand.

I really do like the idea of driving flatbed. However, I think focusing on learning the skills needed to be a safe and sucessful truck driver are more important at this time. Getting in with a regular trucking company and prefecting the craft should come first. Once I have a few years in, and a better physcial aptitude I will revisit driving flatbed. For now, its about getting into a school that fits and a company that seems to be decent. I'm leaning toward Wilson Logistics. Anyone have any personal thoughts on them? Good or bad?

Wilson hauls freight for Prime. Pretty much the same Company as far as freight and company policy. All reefer. Reefer freight can involve lots of wait time at docks and flipping of your sleep/wake schedule. Some folks can tolerate it and some can't. I haul dry Van and stay on the same schedule 95+ percent of the time. I prefer to start my day between 0001-0200. Shut down between 1200-1400. Parking is never an issue at that time of day. That is what works for me. Good luck

I really didn't want to be the first one to say that. Very true though.

When they do the CDL Physcial your weight and BMI, will most likely require a sleep apnea test, with that being said, did you ask what the physical test consists of, and do you have a current physical card, as I don’t know if Maverick will make the drivers see their own doctor at orientation.
