I hope that they replace the Iron Skillet with a decent sit down restaurant and not just more fast food or retail store space. It's hard to believe that the owner Bobby Beckstreser [ hope I spelled it right ] would close the Iron Skillet but it's his business. It will be surely missed. Anyone have photos of the gutted restaurant would be wonderful.Team818 Thanks this.

That would never happen nowadays at a chain truckstop! Nice story to hear about yesteryear.

TA in Ogallala, NE is a bit run down, weird showers. but I ate in the country pride and it was good twice. Lots of flies in the restaurant, maybe why it tasted so good who knows.

First truck stop I ever stayed at was in Florence KY. Got there at 3pm and got the last spot. Woke up to take a shower and my passenger mirror was pushed all the way back and touching my window. Walked in to take a shower and it looked like a scene from a Saw movie. Turned around and walked out...
Second one I ever stayed at was in Jessup MD...I don't think any more needs to be said.
Anymore there's only a few truck stops I actually look forward to staying at. Rutter's is a chain gas station in central PA, basically Sheetz on steroids with truck parking and a scale, no showers but fantastic food. They have a whole menu dedicated to SPAM. Awesome stop if you ever get the chance, just don't go to the one in Carlisle. There's a Pilot in Mention PA right off of I80 that's old school, has a nice diner and clean showers.
Other than those I just sleep at the shipper or receiver. Too many inconsiderate people at truck stops to be honestTeam818 Thanks this. -
About your stay in Florence, KY: Was that back when it was the Burns Brothers Union 76? It's a
crappy T/A now, even though they tore down the old building and put up a totally new property. -

Yeah, Florence has always been a hole, no matter who owned it. Must be all the craziness coming
out of Cincinnati and Covington. -
This is at the Effingham, IL petro. Nothing to smile about IMO.
homeskillet Thanks this. -
Agreed… nothing to smile about.
