Swift is a decent company also.

After you get that CDL in the free school, Roehl offers this position locally -- & later on, you could try out their flatbed &/or reefer division; Roehl offers more hometime options, too:

Thanks for the replies. Swift is certainly one I'll consider. To Ridgeline, I don't think it's fair to make assumptions that I'm not taking driving seriously just because I have some (imo) valid complaints about the entry level training. It should be more rigorous and I would prefer to be in a program that doesn't waste my time for an extra month over the stated course duration. That said, maybe this post was made in a moment of weakness. I plan to finish the free program, despite the issues. Maybe you guys can recommend some resources I can study to get a leg up on actual practical job stuff while I'm sitting out here? Regarding the inward cams, I don't think privacy invasion is the solution to bad driving and it's something I feel like people shouldn't just "get over" - I certainly won't. Is there a comprehensive list of companies that don't use them in 2024?
Concorde Thanks this. -
Given just how slow/bad the current CDL market is....especially for beginners....take the job that you can actually get (it's quite likely you won't be in a position to be choosey).
Carriers that normally accept & train new drivers include (but are not limited to):
- Swift
- Knight (Swift's "sister" company)
- Roehl
- Maverick (flatbed, glass & marine divisions)
- Decker (flatbed, & reefer)
- Schneider
Best of luck....

You will spend 1-2 months with a trainer at your first employer. NOBODY feels ready for solo OTR leaving CDL school. You probably haven't seen one company procedural item for picking up or dropping a trailer. CDL schools cannot know all the basic procedures for event the top 10 companies, let alone every trucking company.
It's much harder to quit your way to success. Finish CDL school. -
Here's the deal, I had a CDL 20 plus years ago that lapsed and in order to get my CDL back in recent years I went to Roehl's GYCDL program. This program is considered by many to be the best company sponsored CDL program and I can tell you that all they did is teach me what you would learn in your free CDL School. By the way Roehl charges $7,000 for their school. What you are receiving for free is something that a lot of people would like to have and are willing to pay money for, I can refer you to other recent active threads where people are seeking out free CDL schools like the one you are attending. -
Like Blagoje, I also went though GYCDL. The problem with GYCDL (or any other company operated CDL school for that matter.) is that you pretty much have a minimum 70% chance of being terminated before completing the required 120k miles. And Rohel bills everyone that failed to reach the required 120k miles $7,000; I suspect because freight has become so cheap that collecting "tuition loan"s is more profitable than running freight.surf_avenue, tarmadilo, Blagoje and 1 other person Thank this. -
