I like a cool bed but my friend says they wouldn't allow idling at night to keep the A/C running. I am looking into becoming a driver and like comfort for sleeping. Has this problem been solved since my buddy quit in 2013?

If they have an APU it will be fine.
austinmike and wildman82 Thank this. -
APU will make your sleeper how you like it to be. But if it's cooling, it will be running and shutting off constantly. Kinda annoying if you're a light sleeper. I personally like to keep truck running , the vibrations just knocks me out for some reason

Everyone praises having an APU but in reality it’s almost as bad as sleeping next to a reefer. Especially because the APU shuts on and off about every 15 minutes all night long. You may not remember waking up every 15 minutes but I almost assure you, when that thing kicks on it wakes up anyone.

Yep, for sure. You kinda get used to your sounds. But when you're parked next to someone and their #### kicks in. It's like you have to adopt the way you sleep, while learning how you sleep, and to be prepared how to sleep next day. So, you just don't sleep and post dumb #### on the internetwildman82 Thanks this.

Swift trucks can only idle in certain temperature ranges... around 69 or above and around 33 or below.
Between those ranges the truck will shut off after 5 minutes.
I can rig it so I can cheat in those middle ranges while I am cooking my dinner, but that won't work when I am trying to sleep. -
That's ridiculous. 69 doesn't seem too hot but when the sun is beating off a truck it feels like 100. Heck it was 55 today and I had to fire the truck up just cause the sun was beating down on my roof. And my roof is white lol

Yes.
And trying to sleep when it is 34 degrees is not easy either.
And the sensor usually reads several degrees above the actual temp, so it needs to get a lot colder than 33 to idle.
I could get a 12V electric blanket, but then I would have dead batteries when I woke up because Swift usually goes very cheap on the batteries. -
I get no idling policies. They make sense.
It saves fuel and lowers expenses. Thereby increasing profits.
I personally however chose not to work for a company that puts profits before worker comfort and safety. A restful sleep is a safety issue.Chinatown, RubyEagle, RockinChair and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have a comfort pro apu and I think it's perfect for summer time. Yes it is loud for sure.. since apu motor is located on passenger side.. the truck to the right of me gets the s end of the stick.. I did get used to the sound and personally I do not sleep so well when I hear other trucks running their actual motor. It's not the sound that's annoying.. its the smell of regen
