Prime and the light weight trucks would be a better choice compared to CRE.

Honestly, you don't need a trucking company to pay for schooling. If you qualify, you can get your CDL training paid through WIA (Workforce Investment Act) funding. That way, you aren't forced to drive for lower pay for a year and you are not stuck in a contract you have to pay back if you end up leaving early. A reputable truck driving school can help you determine if you qualify for WIA and their finance office can even help you apply for it. It is worth looking into as another option.

Yes if you can get your schooling paid for you'll be in a much better position to sign on with a better company. These mega training carriers are counting on your inability to pay for school, so they can in turn make a small investment to have cheap labor. Once your training is done you can work for Melton which is flatbed, TMC which is flatbed, Maverick which is flat bed, reefer, and specialized, Tyson Foods, and Schneider recruits students into their tanker and dry van fleets. There are more companies out there than the ones I listed that'll start you off at decent pay, but that's a start. Get on youtube and look at flatbeds, dry van, reefers, and tankers to see what kind of trailer/freight you would like to pull. Once you decide that you can best narrow down the companies to work for.

There is a general consensus that from the *training* companies, Prime pays the most.

There is also universal agreement on CR England being the worst company to start with.

There are a bunch of companies that take greenhorns (fresh out of school) that will do a time repayment for your schooling.

A viable choice would be to go to a school like Swift Academy, but sign on with another company. I went there, and about a third of my classmates went elsewhere. I had pre-hires from several companies, including US Xpress, Maverick, and Southern Refrigerated Transport. I signed with Swift, because where I wanted to go required six months' experience. That was over a year ago, and I'm still with Swift. I landed a spot on a dedicated account that paid better than where I wanted to go.

These mega trash carriers pay your schooling for a reason. It's the only way they can get anyone to drive for them. Get a grant and pay your own way.
