Back in the day when we would haul out of Expeditors in Seattle/Tacoma, I used to make a few extra $$ shagging empty Shaffer trailers from their place in Kent down to the brewery in Olympia. Expeditors wouldn't load them (too heavy), and there'd usually be one or two just sitting in their empty lot.
It's a crapshoot. Me personally, I'd rather get an empty reefer trailer and go from there, instead of spending eternity waiting for an empty dry van. Sometimes it works out in your favor, other times it doesn't.
8 hours at Post in Jonesboro? Why not bobtail to the droplot in Memphis?

It seems that we have lost Campbells Soup as a customer, at least in Paris, Tx. I delivered to KC and was told by dispatch to bobtail over to Campbells and pick up an empty and bring it back to KC and then get my loaded trailer from KC. I asked him why I just couldn't pick up my load and go and he told me that all our trailers needed to be off Campbells property asap. He wouldn't go into anymore detail.

As for my latest, a long 3 stop(really 2, but q/comm says 1st 2 stops are the same place) from central IA to Houston, then back up to Waxahachie, TX...I guess P&G's load planners don't have a map. When I questioned Op's about the reason for sending me south, then back north...they said it's the customer's routing, that's how they're loading the trailer, that's what their paying for miles. It's a 1360 mi run the way they have it loaded...and it's going to get me a stone's throw from Wilmer so I can finally get my truck serviced, plus all the other repairs it needs...So I guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the soup-cooler. That's a 3000 mile week last week, and a 2600 +2 stops this week, and I had an 1100 mi run from home on the remainder of that 1st week of the month. All in all...If I were any happier, I'd have to sit on my hands to keep from tickling myself(isn't tickling yourself considered a DOT distracted driving violation that would go on your CSA2010 record?)
In the grand scheme of things, I have been getting a good balance of long and short runs. I had a lot of short runs last week, but started out this tour of duty with a long one, and had another long one this trip.Click to expand...Last edited: Mar 17, 2010
