CRETE - A Year in Review

And people say that it's people like me with a bad attitude that only had issues like that...here you are, providing better customer service than anyone in Cow Tip Command ever thought about, and they end up taking the opportunity to screw with the you. Drivers - The Most Valuable Asset, my ###. Some day soon you can look back at this and laugh. I'm thinking about getting t'shirts made up saying 'I survived working for Crete'....or 'Crete Carrier Survivors Club New members welcome'. With the way they're spiraling down the tube...I'm venturing a guess that either they're getting ready to split the company up and sell it's individual freight divisions, or will be out of business within 5 - 10 years. I'm glad I got out while the getting is good.

 

Just a little funny experience that happened when I went to turn in my truck. When I got to Deland, the truck was as clean as it's been since new. I go to check in with the shop to get the inspection done and...... I had to wait in line to quit! So many drivers are leaving, I thought I was going to have to take a number...1 more day, and I'm flying the friendly skies to a better place....I'm almost counting the hours

 

They are leaving Crete so fast that I know of a driver at home on medical leave and her truck and trailer have been parked empty at her house for over a month. Crete is in no hurry to come and get them.

 

Haven't you watched To Catch a Predator? They always bring Beer and condoms.

 

I wish you where right SSB, but from what I've seen other places the worse it gets for the drivers the better the quarterly profit reports get. I think we may be heading for a revisit of 18th Century France. Guillotines can't be that hard to build right?

 

Well, I am still not having the problems you all are having. Had a hiccup this afternoon, as I'm supposed to be in Marietta Tuesday in order to be able to fly out Wed for vacation. They offer me a load to NJ for Wed. No surprise; in fact, I prepared myself mentally for it.

Turned it down, told them why, and in less then 3 mins, I had a load headed for Conyers, GA to del Tues at 1100. No big

My only question for you, SSB, is how do you think e-logs will affect your miles abnd earning potential at Poly (as we all know it is just a matter of time for the whole industry.)

 

I actually turned better miles with e-log, so going back to paper will have some effect, but a 68 mph truck will overcome any shortcomings...that and being paid hub miles will help too. I think once everyone has to go to them, it'll only make the earnings improve a little more.

I add the experience of e-logs to my arsenal of knowledge, if, or more likely when, e-logs are mandatory industry wide...I'm ready and will just have to get re-use to doing them again.

 

at least they did better this time then when you were trying to get home to help your son on his way to college...

 

I was really thinking more in terms of the multi-stop loads, but I agree....I don't think it'll have a lot of effect either way. A bit of adjustment for some should be about it.

Well, with two days to go, I've been out 47 days. Turned almost exactly 18,000 miles during that time, including a couple of 34s and a day of breakdown, so they've been keeping me rolling for the most part. Pick up here in Richmond, IN in the morning, deliver in Conyers, GA Tuesday, then head to Marietta to meet wifey. We fly out to NM on Wednesday to meet family in Santa Fe.
