yes.
In the last 11 years Brooklyn, Queens (twice), Long Island and Manhattan, for me, never to Bronx or Staten Island. I turned down a Queens run 2 weeks ago for a Danville, PA load.
It has been my only option twice and I accepted a Queens delivery by choice.
With Shaffer (Sunflower) I did Queens and Long Island a few times (forced) but never had the dreaded Hunts Point run, LOL!
Its a rare event that I would never worry about and each visit has proved to be an interesting story! I would never volunteer for a NYC run however.

Thanks for the NYC info. How many miles do you guys average weekly? I know the website says 2700-2900, is that about right?
-
I just qut after 3 weeks averaging 2200 miles. There is an industry wide slow down in freight that may well last until the new year. Despite promises that he would work to ensure I got 2400 miles per week minimum, my manager did nothing to improve my miles or get me home as promised after orientation. After 21 days OTR and them telling me while I was in my home terminal I had to finish a load that was not due for another day, I said enough.
Prior to the slow down, when I drove for Crete a year ago, I averaged about 2600 miles which I considered very good as I do not push my hours or try to drive to my 70 hour limit, reset with a 34 hour break, and get back into it again - I've always prefered to keep my hours around 9 per day. Guys who drive hard seem able to get over 3000 miles per week.
If you are in school now, I would say that things will be much better by the time you are turned loose as a solo driver if you go with Crete/Shaffer. good luck! -
I'm one of those drivers that run hard, as hard as a legal log book will allow that is, and do a reset every week. Last year I averaged 3100+ miles/week.
So far this year I'm sitting at an average of 3200+mi/week.
A number of drivers have been reporting slower weeks of late, but outside of a couple of off weeks I haven't had that problem yet. As a matter of fact my last two weeks have been in the neighbor hood of 3500mi. I keep waiting for the axe to fall, but to date it hasn't happened. -
Thanks for the info. I have about five months left on my contract with USA truck and am scouting out other companies. 2200 to 2600 miles a week would be fine for me. Thanks again and be safe on the road.

you're welcome. I hated to step away from Crete a second time, but at this point I just don't have the patience for their head games. they are a very contradictory company, but if you can take it all with a grain of salt, you can weather the storm.bb.

I just asked that of their recruiter yesterday... told no... you fill out a diff. app with each company. What I was told anyway...
I'll add on a couple questions of mine I hope someone can answer... seeing I am sending in a Crete App. tonight, after speaking twice with recruiting. Want to know if I am being BS'd...
1) am told training pay weekly is $600... never heard of ANY conmpany offering that much; I see above that is also mentioned. Ifr so... that to me is ideal for a company to that and gives me an even better impression on top of an already good one...
2) told time out with trainer would most likely be 2 - 3 weeks, because I drove OTR 2 months 4 years ago... again, that seems unrealistic to me.
Sounds to me like I am being bs'd... Yes? No? Again I see above 3 weeks, but he drove recently for a year...I am guessing at least a month out for me, if not their full 8 week program as I would be considered new. In that case... what is the training pay?
Thanks for any input... -
i worked for shaffer who is owned by crete and i hauled crete freight, i liked crete they seem to be streight shooters, i ran with a lot of thier drivers, and heard only minamal complaints,i think you get out of any company what you are willing to put into that company, so good luck and be safe, give them a shot woodstock

You must have had witness' to your injury. I was hurt on company property, stepping off company truck, while waiting on company employees to get me running. And I haven't seen a dime. No money for time off (2 months) no payment of medical....nothing!!!! after 5 weeks without pay, calling them 3 times a week, I resorted to hiring a workers comp lawyer. I didn't want to have to take this coarse of action, but they push it that direction. I could see a delay if I were trying to screw them out of some damages, but all I wanted is for them to comp me for the time off, and pay my medical bills.
