I wonder what happened. He was probably going pretty slow at that point if he was loaded.

My guess is he was texting. Drifted off the road got the tank sloshing, tried to recover, slowed hard as he tried to do so, and was sent into the ditch when the slosh pulled it over which caused more sloshing and over she went. Keep in mind most bulkheads and baffles are front to back, not side to side. And this happened several times out in the oilfield. Same thing, tank got out of control, driver tried to slow. Slosh pulled hin into ditch which made it worse. Then slosh yanked it over

A 4 or 5 compartment fuel trailer doesn’t slosh much unless you’re running around with half a load on. I have a 4 compartment that’s 9800 gallons and even with 8500 gallons on you can’t feel it slosh, or with 7500 of diesel because the 3 compartments I load are mostly full.

Fair. Ive never hauled fuel only water, oil, condensate ect and those all handle much diffrent to fuel from what ive heard. Regardless side slosh is the best answer i got for what happened.

It only spilled 200 gallons? That's seems like a win.

That’s what I was thinking. Going west one would assume he was loaded out of Denver and it would appear everything on the trailer worked as it should.

Most of your compartments will be full or close to full with a fuel trailer. A daycab like that can probably haul 9k gallons legal and that’s probably a 9200 or 9500 gallon trailer he’s pulling.

My trailer is 3000/2000/1600/3200 and my first load this morning was a two drop that I had to load 2000/1900/1500/3100 and that little extra room in the front isn’t even enough to be able to feel the trailer when the other three are full.
