You should go ahead and tell the crime, because that can change a lot of things. Some will be forgiven, some will not. I would take a hazmat test, for one it looks good and two, they run a TSA background check which may get you a second look on your application if they know you don't have any real problems.

Ex-cons make good truckers; I've worked with dozens during my career.

why is every one assuming he's a felon?

no where in his post is the severity of the crime mentioned.

You are right. I made that assumption not knowing his history. My bad. OP, please be more specific on the type of "criminal history" For example, If you have 2 or more DUI's in a lifetime, even if they were not felony DUI's, that can be a huge hurdle with the majority of companies. Help us out a bit.

It’s 6 years ago. Some things depend on severity of crime - but don’t discredit a guy from wanting to move onward and upward.

Yeah guys I do have a felony charge, but it is not a conviction. I was given differed probation which upon completion, can later be expunged as long as I do not commit another crime (which I won’t). The charge is aggravated assault with a deadly weapon from 2014 and a DUI from 2012. Stuff happens and I accept my mistakes, but my past does not make who I’m becoming or currently am. I’ve tried CR England and Prime Inc., but I’m told it’s 7 years with C.R. and 10 years with Prime from last crime.

When I went to school there were several students attending the class that had Felony’s some rather serious ones. We had numerous recruiters come through our school and most indicated they would exclude people with serious violent crime Felonies unless a certain amount of time has went by. I think 10 years. There was a couple of students in there with like armed robbery convictions and they didn’t have a chance at most companies that came in there. But a couple said they’d hire in certain situations.

OK I just read this post, the DUI might be a bigger issue because it hasn’t been a full 10 years. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think most companies won’t even look at you with a DUI in till 10 years went by. The deferred conviction should not be held against do you actually.
The deferred conviction should not be held against do you actually. That is technically a “dismissed” case if you complete the states requirements.

I know lots of truck drivers who have deferred/dismissed cases for domestic violence type stuff basically arguing with past girlfriends or wives many of them innocent but they opted for those classes just to get the stupid case dismissed. You wouldn’t believe how many couples get in fights and the police show up and they just automatically take the man to jail and charge them with domestic assault.
Finish All the states requirements and get that case dismissed.
