When CSA first came out they published large posters that many companies hung in the lobbies and restrooms. They clearly stated in big large letters that drivers scores would be affected by the various Basics violations which also contributed to drivers believing drivers had CSA 'scores'.

Then you have the whole thing about the Carrier carries 'points' for 2 years and drivers carry 'points' for 3 years, time weighted times 3 the first year, times 2 the second year and times 1 the third year.

It all contributes to confusion. The driver actually has a PSP report with all inspections either violation free or violation true listed going back 3 years. Companies are starting to pull this report on drivers and integrating it into their decisions to hire a driver along with MVR and DAC records.

Actually that is the purpose of PSP but it is voluntary. Noteworthy is that although PSP uses the same data as CSA, it is not part of CSA. A PSP record includes your five-year crash and three-year inspection history from FMCSA's MCMIS database, and there is no score, just a record.

    From CSA - What's New

"What is the Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) and how does it impact CSA 2010?"

"PSP is a new, voluntary FMCSA program mandated by Congress that is designed to assist the motor carrier industry in assessing individual drivers’ safety performance as part of the hiring process. PSP is a completely separate program from CSA 2010. Additionally, PSP does not provide a rating, score or formal assessment of any kind."

Do not know what large posters you are referencing, but CSA/DOT stated from the beginning that drivers would not be rated under CSA, that the only time drivers are looked at under CSA was during a carrier intervention/investigation. That's when DMS comes in to play.

PSP and CSA can kick rocks. I read that article, 8 things you need to know. They claim it is something very important to your future business, so why is it the most fragile and easily extorted realm of our industry.

While this is accurate, many companies use a software program that assigns their prospective (and current) employees a score that is based on the point value that the csa program uses.

If it’s listed on the inspection it shouldn’t affect CSA if the inspection was passed. However, if the officer writes you a warning that may affect your score. This is a new tactic they’re using because you can’t fight a warning and a 5 over ticket is worthless in court.
