I started in this business 16 months ago. I had to provide verifiable info for the last 10 years. I started with another company who had no issues, which promptly laid me off due to lack of work. THIRD company ALSO took my info without hireright.
You have to provide info for the last ten years which can be verified. Two letters from friends is sufficient for periods of unemployment, per FMSCA.
If your prospective employer won't accept this, it says VOLUMES about your employer.
Dac going back 5 years?wth!

I find 383.35 of the FMCSA rules interesting. First the 10 year history is any and all work as a driver of a CMV not general driving. There is no mention of any 3 year period either. Also there is no mention of any rule requiring a company to verify any history provided.
§ 383.35: Notification of previous employment.
(a) Any person applying for employment as an operator of a commercial motor vehicle shall provide at the time of application for employment, the information specified in paragraph (c) of this section.
(b) All employers shall request the information specified in paragraph (c) of this section from all persons applying for employment as a commercial motor vehicle operator. The request shall be made at the time of application for employment.
(c) The following employment history information for the 10 years preceding the date the application is submitted shall be presented to the prospective employer by the applicant:
(1) A list of the names and addresses of the applicant's previous employers for which the applicant was an operator of a commercial motor vehicle;
(2) The dates the applicant was employed by these employers; and
(3) The reason for leaving such employment.
(d) The applicant shall certify that all information furnished is true and complete.
(e) An employer may require an applicant to provide additional information.
(f) Before an application is submitted, the employer shall inform the applicant that the information he/she provides in accordance with paragraph (c) of this section may be used, and the applicant's previous employers may be contacted for the purpose of investigating the applicant's work history. -
All good, except when your company reports "Driver abuse" for worn tires, etc. There are companies that report to Hireright that have no hesitation to report BS and blame it on the driver. I got blamed for a bad trailer I put in a DVIR for when I picked it up. I only found this out when my safety bonus was killed over an issue that had nothing to do with me. -

I know a guy today that is fighting a carrier because they put bad information up on DAC in regard to a positive drug test. There was a disconnect between the MRO and the company safety dept. Trust me I am well aware of the crap that's going on with DAC.

The fmcsa doesn't require 10 years of work history either what they do require is any work you performed as a cdl holder in the previous 10 years

you should have seen the BIG white envelope it came in.!!
but, it only listed the companies i worked for, no other information past the 7 year reporting.

Go back 30 years? Nice. I wonder how you managed that. It would be interesting to see all 30 years plus of my time out there.
Anyhow... I recieved a little something the mail today, participating in a class action against HireRight for their failing to disclose all information. So they set aside a certain amount of money to pay those who participate.
The money is minor. around 45 dollars give or take per participant depending on how many they recieve prior to aug 6 and is agreed to sept this year in courts before payout. I know that there are several companies who are hostile towards me for a variety of reasons and will not disclose time of day. You would think what with the amount of government and military loads that I have been a part of there would be a database somewhere in which employers will discover everything. Both good and bad.
I'll keep you all up to date, If you asked for a DAC or did requests with HireRight prior to may 2 of this year you should be now or soon recieving a post card in the mail. Send it back properly. -
and then i selected this
DAC Employment History File (includes employment history records and identifies existence of alcohol/controlled substance test history, if any, as submitted by former employers). Note this typically only applies if you hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
