Today's article is from Baron's, not one of our useless trucking rags. Topic "There really is no driver shortage. "

    Today's article -

U.S. Department of Labor numbers show there is no driver shortage.

Guess nobody thought to look there until now.

Dude, these are definitely good paying runs but nobody would consider these local. If you don’t want to call them OTR then call them regional. The “local” guy is pulling a 32 footer up to the Alaskan Bush Company, not running to the north slope.

    Todays Article -

Since there really is no driver shortage, as authored by the ATA ( mega carriers ), then why do we need to lower the age to drive a CMV?

    Two words :cheap labor.
Why pay an experienced driver $2 a mile when a new inexperienced teenager can be paid practically peanuts ($.20- $.30 cents a mile).

Well, here's where the 'safety' part kicks in. You see, not only are they going to be paid peanuts, they also have to team for at least 6 months. That's beauty right there.

    mjd4277 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

But if there is no driver shortage, why this course of action?
