Let me clarify the Danny Herman pay scale.
The 18 cents is per driver.
So, you start off splitting 36 cents a mile.
If you drive 18,000 miles per month, you go up to 20 cents/mile for that month.
If you drive 20,000 miles in a month, you are paid 22 cents/mile for that month.
In a calendar quarter, if you get 55,000 miles, you get another penny.
So 23 cents a mile for that quarter.
If you can make 60,000 miles in a quarter, you will get another penny.
So in that quarter each driver will get 24 cents a mile.
That is pretty good money for a rookie.
The question is, how hard is it to hit that bonus, 60K miles in 3 months?
I asked the recruiter what percentage of drivers made that bonus but he artfully dodged the question, he replied that "We paid $73,050 in bonuses last ....." I didn't catch the time frame.
That is the important question, if 80 percent of drivers are hitting that bonus then that looks pretty good for me.
If it is only 20 percent that make the bonus, that wouldn't look so good.
--omd, you say not to work for this company. Please give details as to what you know about them, did you used to drive for Danny Herman?
Thanks.
Signed,
A. Rookie

Call Swift,
DHT sux, in my opinion........you can do way better. -
DHT is a hard pushing company, thats why they prefer teams. they have great runs, no doubt about it. Very little ne, mostly sw out and back as hard as you can go. But the pay is horrible. Check other companies and their starting team pay if thats what you want, but you better like your team-mate, because thats a hard thing to do, be in the same truck with someone else 24/7. Best of luck to ya
AfterShock Thanks this. -
Scott, I'm sorry dude but please pick my silly old arse up off the floor from this last post I'm laughing so hard!
That is the stupidest thing I've read in a while! 18,000, 20,000, 55,000 in a quarter?
Gimmie a break! They put this stupid crap up for rookies to fall on like a knife!
The ONLY number actually for real is the 55,000 in a quarter! And 18,000 a month? HMMM I can't get those number to work with 11 hours a day or 70 a period as a single or if it's team pay that only 9k a month so that's even worse as $1620 minimum a month. Yeah that'll pay the car, house, food, clothing and other things that the wife needs, maybe, but what are you going to eat off of? Or do I need to figure out the 20,000 a month for you? Dude! That pay is federal minimum pay! You'll do just as good flipping burgers and be at home with that wife, kids, car, motorcycle every night! Heck that 18,000K at half pay is $120 More than what I'm getting on disability right now a month and I'm at the TOP of that scale! That is sad money and DHT is selling it to you rookies! Aww, crap, I've fallen to the floor again LMFAO!
JUST PAY A FAIR WAGE for every mile! That 18K, 20K or 55K is pure BULL CRAPOLA! If they don't want to pay you they can sit you for a day or so till they KNOW you can't make that 18K, 20K or 55K miles in that quarter!
What's so hard DHT that you can't pay a fair wage of say $.35? HMMM? I'll call it out loud and now:: GREED!
Yeah those of us who know, know why! So YOU make the money that the driver made but you're so cheap you come up with this BS pay scale!
I would NEVER turn a key in anyones truck that can't set a real pay scale on a per mile basics!
A sliding scale is a freaking ripoff!
This is trucking, not a commission paid job and that's what a sliding pay scale is!
If I wanted a commission I'd be a recruiter for a BFI like this company or any of them that pay like this or selling insurance or shoes! -
Rollover:
Your condescending reply is so dumb, I don't know where to start.
Read my last post again and see if you can do better.
You have not gotten to first base in understanding my info on this company, and you obviously don't embarass easily. -
It's NOT condescending to you but to DHT!
That whole pay scale is an embarrassment to anyone. Period!
You are getting BENT with that pathetic amount of money!
You need to reread my post!
I'm telling you that you will be getting screwed if you take that deal!
Reread my post and show me where I'm being condescending. I'm pointing out facts as did Rerun!
If you think $.18CPM is good money or even "training pay" then forget this thread and go take that pathetic amount of pay! But figure it out in an hourly pay! My figures show about $9.90 an hour but that's only for 55 miles in an hour and NOT showing the line 4 stuff or the sleeping while the truck is in motion, the living with another person in a closet, the over priced food, the being away from home and family not to mention the laughter of local and teamsters if they hear of that high dollar pay you're getting. I would break the key off in the ignition before I'd start a truck for that kind of pathetic pay! Do you really think that the money you paid for that CDL mill is worth that? It's NOT! But go ahead and take that pathetic money and make it hard for those behind you to make anything! Team pay? ROFLMAO! Would you drive solo for that? No you would not! Why do drivers take 1/2 pay for the EXACT SAME MILES? You drive 11 hours, at 55 MPH or 600 miles as a team and you take $.18 a mile????
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE??
Do that as a solo and tell me with a straight face!

Covenant recruiter came out to our school last March 09 selling $.016 cents a mile. So DHT is about right on the price with about a year along and a couple of cents more. For us who were in the class listening to this stuff, not knowing what we didn't even know, it sounded good. The guy gives the student a number of miles and the student multiplies that with his calculator and says, 'yeah I've been off work for 99 weeks, this is good money'. The recruiters take advantage of that ignorance. They are like used car salesmen. "You'll be driving a brand new shiny Prostar International" they tell ya. They hand you a big thick glossy hiring packet to take home to your wife (or husband or S O). If you get your HazMat endorsement they pay another penny per mile (only on HazMat loads, but they leave that little detail out lol). If you sign up for the 'best thing since sliced bread per diem program' you will take home larger pay checks! Why do the companies offer such measly pay?
- Mucho profit for the carrier
- Chances of newbie driver crashing and burning so they take out huge insurance and score either way (accident or no)
- Most people come into the job thinking they can handle it I guess but quickly become homesick or other reasons decide to quit-- company wants to mitigate that loss by pre-screwing the driver out of fair pay.
- Those shiny new Prostars cost money and they figure (read:need) they can get new cheap drivers all day long.
It can be overwhelming, and to the new guy like myself who didn't know anything about anything pay wise in trucking I bought it hook line and sinker. I was all on board to sign up and go there or C R England who had called me and invited me to come to Fontana CA for orientation for a fair and reasonable little fee of $1495 plus $100 for some other BS even though I had just finished paying $5000 for my CDL. I ended up at Swift by the way, gotta say I'm pretty happy now but would like to be earning more per mile... -
where ever you go your first year sucks. once you get your 1 yr in then you can almost go anywhere you want.
-
There used to be a time when companies where actually upstanding people to work for! Honest and everything! Even new hires made real money when they hired on! Even back when pay was that high dollar $.18 a mile a new driver with none or years of experience came on, on the ladder scale at that $.18 or later when pay had gone up to $.20's and then into the $.30's range and now these BFI's are pulling this trash of it's the economy lie and telling you this BULL of a pay scale!
Or training pay? Again pick my silly old arse up off the floor as that's BS all the way through! Again I'll ask. Would you drive solo for that pathetic pay? if you say yes go the hello back to BK as you'll do better in the long run there! And be treated like a human and not a slave!
I'll post this website again. It's the USDA site showing freight rates for produce. I want anyone who thinks $.18 or even $.30 is fair to figure the pay per miles shown on this chart! Then tell me with a straight face these BFI's are being anything but fair and honest with you! They should be charged with the RICO act if anything!
I'll let you know something, these rates NEVER fell during this "recession" more than 10% before companies refused the freight rates they tried to pay for something that was not effected by the turn down we had because no farmer stopped growing food or cattle, no chicken stopped laying eggs and cows didn't stop reproducing!
Yes some companies slowed down and some stopped but the biggest stoppages were in the housing market and manufacturing markets for big ticket items but not the things we had to have to live! Food and toilet paper and house hold cleaning markets stayed up fairly well! Did you wife stop cleaning house? Mine #### sure didn't! Want a stock tip? House hold cleaning items (Proctor and Gamble, Rickett and Benkiser and then things like Palmolive and beauty products always hold value!) never really lose! Women will ALWAYS clean that house and look pretty unless you're married to a pig!
The web site here http://www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/wa_fv190.txt is produce only. I don't deal in dry goods as the money is nowhere as good as reefer freight. But this will show you LAST WEEKS rates! Look at it next week and then at your pay stub and go find real pay! Or live in that fantasy world these recruiters are selling!
OH! These rates went up AGAIN! Look at the rate to NYC and tell me you don't do NYC! ROFLMAO! Please God, fix my body so I can get back to work! I'd fall on these rates in a heartbeat! -
All i keep hearing is comentary on the 1st guys remark on 18 cts a mile....is it really? iam going to call tomorrow to find out...and guys...most of us try and get our own trucks...most have to lease/purchase...I have a 200k home and 2 really hot cars that are paid off... tried to get a loan for a trk but in this Obama economy...only people getting loans are the Indians coming in and buying Hotels and 7/11's....so hold up on the slams on truckers doing what it takes to get a truck of their own... most people move on once they find out they are being taken advantage of...But with that being said...i WILL call Danny Herman tomorrow and put it to rest once and for all on the pay for singles...or teams...Jabbs
