Sure thing Coils break loose. Absolutely. 12,000 pounds become multiples of G imposed forces at impact. Becomes like a 100,000 pound paperweight from God. Nothing can hold that.
It's interesting, I don't see much of the video except for the stupid coil LOL.

That looks scary as hell. Could happen to any of us. A reminder to stay on your toes and remember the rules: Look way ahead and always have an out...
We all leave a starting point fully expecting to reach our destination, we can't even imagine this happening, and neither did this driver. Whatever drew his attention from what lies ahead has surely drew attention from most drivers at some point in time, we just lucky there's not a stopped truck in our path when it happens. I hope both drivers are ok. Sometimes drivers are lucky and don't get hurt. Trucks are so big and heavy that in most collisions you'll probably win, but whoever you collide with is probably going to lose real bad. Pay attention guys, we have loved ones back home that are eager for our return. Stay safe and God Bless...dancecanyon, j_martell, rachi and 1 other person Thank this. -
Being safe means not driving sleepy as far as Im concerned.
Bigrig mentioned collisions, Ive had situations where I had too many hours and cross over into the path of a oncoming semi. Im still here because I woke up in time and horsed the rig back over we missed each other by a inch, maybe two with a scrape here and there on our trailers. Radio lit up and said &^%$# You ok!? Hell yes, Im awake now. Not something to say with smokey in the area.
There are moments in life that are sometimes burned into the brain and will remain there when it takes the rest of your life to see if that trailer is gonna clear the other man or not. -
Looks like he was trying to pass on the right. Misjudged the speed of the truck on the left, and locked it up when he saw he couldn't; but it was too late.

Whether he was drowsy, distracted, or attempting a "I'll show you" pass, he's wrong. Let's just hope he's not dead wrong.tsavory, dancecanyon, j_martell and 4 others Thank this. -
rachi Thanks this.

Cmon now, most of us don't jump in the hammer lane for nothing. It's either a car on the shoulder, a police, a truck on the shoulder, or we see a prime trailer miles ahead, then we jump to the hammer lane.
I told my students, if you start see multiple trucks ahead of you switching lanes, then there's might be a hazard on the shoulder so pay attentiontsavory, double yellow, j_martell and 7 others Thank this. -
Tunnelvision.
I have seen it happen before with 4wheelers.
All they see is the truck they HAVE to pass.
By the time they see the big picture it is to late.tsavory and dancecanyon Thank this. -
I just read the commentary from Tyler Eubanks, the YouTube poster. Both drivers were fine. That's good news.
daf105paccar Thanks this. -
You can watch the coil in the mirror on the fender.
lovesthedrive and daf105paccar Thank this.
