I respect you driver, but can we stop the narrative of all local work is 14 hours a day. I’ve been home daily for 7+ years and only worked a 14 hour day a handful of times. Usually because of a breakdown.

This right here is spot on 100% .. the only thing needed to be added is if I call your shop and tell you I need a service truck ASAP because I have a flat tire on the side of the road and my trailer is loaded.. DON'T BLOW SMOKE UP MY A.. and tell me you'll be there in 40 mins and show up 2 hrs later..
Just frame what I quoted in my post ..And you will already be ahead of every other tire shop I've had to deal with for the last 35+ years -

You will have priorities or must haves in your daily routine. Like eating a meal, not a can of spagghetos. Or a daily shower. Sometimes you can skip getting a shower. I liked getting up early and be rolling by 4 am. Because you don't know what might happen during the day. Breakdown, construction traffic etc. And then you can be parked by 4pm for the night. Then also, needing to adjust your drive schedule, like, driving half the night to arrive for a 11 pm appt. I always verified delivery time with the consignee so no surprises. But all in all, pretty basic, pick load, trip plan, deliver load. No tickets, accidents, customer complaints. Have fun !
Boondock Thanks this. -
A day in my life, hmmmm.....everybody already explained everything pretty much. I will say, it isn't so much about how fast you can drop off loads necessarily, as loads aren't always designed that way. The most successful drivers are the most efficient drivers, and the ones that have a willingness to use any part of a 24 clock to utilize drive time(11 hrs per day). This is probably one of the easiest jobs I've ever worked honestly. It's one thing to work, and it's a another thing to know how to work.
