Are you talking about dry van freight? You need to learn markets. You shouldn't even consider that load. $3 a mile would be OK, not great, but brokers will rarely pay it or let's just go ahead and say never pay that out of MA for dry van. They don't have to someone will take it. Reload rates from brokers in the northeast typically suck. Reloads out of Florida right now, and for the better part of 10 months out of any given year, are typically way worse than what you'll find out of the northeast. It's consumption market that produces basically nothing.
Both are terrible markets for reloads. So how much sense does it make to take a poor paying load from one bad market to another? That's a sucker load don't do it. $1.40 or a $1.60 those are both loser rates from MA to FL. $2 is a loser. But it will book all day every day for less than $2. Some guys are enamored with gross revenue and don't think thru the finer details.zlonz3 Thanks this. -
I say "try the train"
...and I haul cheap!zlonz3 Thanks this. -
What's sad is that someone probably took that load for $1,700.
However, I'm curious as to why the OP is asking how he should respond to a lowball broker offer. Are you new at this? -
The proper way to deal with CH Robinson is......don't.
zlonz3 Thanks this. -
I ran a 10k lb van load for CH Robinson a couple of weeks ago.
It was a 1,200 mile run and they paid me $2,800. Not too bad for a van on the west coast.
I have personally not had any issues with them. If what they have doesn't suit me and they're non-negotiable, I just move on and keep looking.zlonz3 Thanks this. -
Sounda like a good fuel surcharge. Whats the rate?exhausted379, zlonz3 and Cottonmouth85 Thank this.

1199 miles MA to FL, I wouldn't even have a conversation starting less than $3200 but your not going to get that kind of rate out of MA or FL going anywhere. Best you can hope for in Florida right now is beer or water and if you really REALLY push them you can get up to about $.90 per mile for a heavy load going nowhere.
whoopNride and zlonz3 Thank this. -
Mega carrier has already dispatched their driver to get that load.

I had Western Express call me yesterday asking if I would be interested in helping out for the holidays.
Mega's drive down rates, drivers and wages and they want to take there compention off the markets, Owner Operator'szlonz3 Thanks this.
