Just ignore him and continue as planned being mindful of him all the while. Most people aren't looking for a fight, so if he is, and it's almost unavoidable, hit him as hard as you can and try to get him off his feet,
A majority of people are terrible on their backs. Also, show no fear and blade yourself if he approaches.

Never turn your back on him and maintain eye contact. He's probably just a harmless nutjob, just don't underestimate him.

Conceal carry would be great option but I travel all lower 48 states so its impossible to comply with all the 48 states firearm laws. And I do cross into/from Canada once in a while and they don't want you to carry firearm across border.

I have carried for years... Had more than a few cops ask me if I had a firearm in the truck, I said hell yes, they said we will drive by every few hours to see if you are still alive. Seriously. ;-)

Mentally disturbed people are never easy to deal with. Wether it's a condition that they have or caused by drugs or alcohol. I hate to liken them to animals, but I deal with them like I would a dog. Don't look them in the eye. Give them room and get clear of them. If they seem threatening, notify security or the police.

Sounds like a lost Greyhound Passenger.

...but then again, I talk to myself often. But when I talk to myself, it's to consult an expert for expert advice.

I bought one of these for the wife to keep in her car. When gripped gently with a loose wrist at the end of the rubber, it becomes very well balanced and quite deadly in the right hands.

Why all the subterfuge, how about just ignore them. While going about your own business?

Not in my life experience you don't.

I go into urban areas where angels don't go and the one rule that we have is never to ignore or run from any one because they will simply increase efforts to engage you. Even attacking out of anger. I don't have the inclination to get into how to use words and particular tactics to deal with people who are not welcome. At the end of day a simple flat "We have nothing for you" ends the situation. If they want to get violent, let's go Im already spun up and ready for that too.

Having a spouse with me became a bigger problem. A liability actually in some of the really bad spots around the USA.

As a licensed carry who must be in a situation where there is no chance of violence sometimes the simple body language of a pre-draw with the gun butt printing is enough to end the problem. If they do the right thing and back off. If not? Well, you all will be reading about yet another shooting in the rock tomorrow.

In my time parasites and thugs were real aggressive. If you ignored them they see it as prey behavior. And then move in. Predator and prey. Pre-attack assessments is already made by the bad guy based on your own physical presentation and behavior. If you are not aware of what is going on around you (If you are within 8 parking spots of me, I am already evaluating you and everyone beyond you setting up shot problem mentally.)

After all that, I live quietly and in peace and I value that very much because I spent so many years going where there is none. Ive still got my tire thumper who has two or three people notched into it and at my age there is no more swinging that as fast and hard as I did then on those two problems that did get violent. But... I would draw. And THAT would be the last thing I want or need to happen to anyone. It is simply the way it is.

I find it interesting you try the word superfuge. I consider it more simply, tactics as the situation evolves. If I am walking towards you and move to one side and your second step is towards me, I am already under attack of some kind. And am setting up the problem, hopefully ahead of you. You as the predator should see it happening and get clear. There is a drill I enjoy very much in the tac bay. The Tueller Drill. You are 21 feet away, can you sink a knife (Dud training version) into me before I draw and stop you?) It's three steps or so in a very short time for you and your knife. Most people don't even have the mindset in a walmart for example to be able to react that fast. They are bowed down with their own problems in life walking with eyes to ground and stooped shoulders. That cries out I am a prey. Predators are walking around ramrod straight and eyes checking everyone and everything. Take a look around sometime when you go out.

It's easier to avoid a situation and having to tell someone to beat it than it is to be blind and be accosted and not know what to do.
