Which of the two employers has told you (in writing) that you are in fact "captain of the ship"?

Just because your freight is hazmat tanker -- don't automatically assume they have given you that status.

I have offers from both. On paper from the smaller company and amerigas literally has offered it to me a day after a phone interview (although I had tentatively accepted the first offer) I wanted to at least hear what they had to say if that makes sense. So both jobs are for grabs just trouble deciding which to go with

I prefer smaller companies myself and the free heathcare makes up pay difference. Equip condition would throw a curveball on this

Are you new to the industry? The reason I'm asking is because both seem to be paying low considering it's HAZMAT.

Free health insurance for the driver seems like the one.

Is this delivering with a bobtail to residential or from terminal to bulk plants? Because you say propane delivery in your post.

I worked for a company with free healthcare to driver for a while.
They even had free life insurance for driver at 50k. Worked there 5 years until they got bought out. It helped me up some, plus more family oriented.

    DanOMac and Chinatown Thank this.

I would go with AmeriGas. You'll make anywhere from $60 to $100 more every week (maybe even more if AmeriGas will let you work beyond 45 hours), they have more PTO & vacation time, and I'm sure their 401(k) match is better than the mom & pop's.

They also have a propane discount which could save you a whole lot of money - more than you would save by having the free health insurance at the other place. And make sure you compare the details of the two companies' insurance plans. Free health insurance isn't worth having if it's going to nickel-and-dime you to death.

Amerigas takes the win in my book. OT after 40 and much better PTO. Wondering what the health insurance is like though? Could be expensive and useless or could be decent? Do you have a family that needs coverage or are you single and healthy? Lots of considerations there but personally me I'd go with the bigger company here.

    DanOMac Thanks this.
