Its is not super common. Over the years Id say I have had about 12 or so cases of Diesel contaminated with DEF. Can be very hard to detect if nobody fesses up. See alot with Gasoline contamination as well.
that would take alot of gasoline to contaminant 100 gallons of diesel. wouldnt it. the gas would just dissolve in that amount of diesle. So were talking what, 10 gallons of gas mixed in a diesel system that your talking about?
Much more common in the automotive/light truck world. Had a tanker in a few weeks ago. Id say it was 75% gas 25%Diesel. Towed in, barely running just enough to pull it into the shop bay. It only idled.
Well, I have a similar story and I’ve been at it 20+ years. This past summer I was finishing my day, and I had to put oil in and also needed to fill up on DEF. At my work, you get both at the same door in the building. I have my hood up, and the cap off my DEF tank and so I start going about my business and then I suddenly realize that I’m putting oil in the DEF tank. I probably put a half gallon in before I realized it. Thankfully I knew enough to leave it be. Towed it into a bay, drained and flushed the DEF tank, and called it a wrap. But, it goes to show that it can happen to anyone, regardless of experience.
I was about to say it would take quite a bit of gasoline... Used to be that 5 to 10 gallons of gasoline in 100 to 150 gallons of fuel was the tried and true anti-gel.
What about trying this, it remove water from tank and DEF is like 90% water. Seems like a very small amount of DEF is actually in the tanks
