Pretty much. Too many people making way too much money off this and it goes counter to the "durrrr def r gud, it r reduce da bad emissionz, who care if truck break all time dey is just trucker trash and mah enviromentz durrr" naritive. The sales of DEF alone bring in 30 BILLION dollars. The sales of parts, labor, down time and everything else is likely in the hundreds of billions or even trillions of dollars range.

My buddy suspects it is because farmers had a good year with high prices for crops, and the fertilizer companies want to capitalize on that.
Basically I asked the same question you did - and he responded "Because they can".Speed_Drums, Rubber duck kw and motocross25 Thank this. -
I unloaded fert a few weeks ago and the dude at the Co-Op told me it was $900 a ton, last year it was $300. I asked what in the world made it triple in cost in a year he said he’s heard everything from blaming the labor shortage to ships getting tied up and everything in between. Pretty much “just because”. He went on to say it’s really got people in a pinch because grain prices aren’t going up. So the farmer trying to offload grain and then turn around and get fertilizer is getting hit hard.

In case no one has noticed, the United States is under attack by billionaire elites who make boatloads of money and get their jollies by crushing a country’s economy. Look at the nationality of those who have taken control of just about every aspect of this country... google the names... check their entry in the “Early Life” section in Wikipedia. What do you notice?

So what I have found out is Urea is a natural product mined in China. It is mixed with water (that is why DEF freezes)to make DEF and sprayed into the exhaust in order to reduce emissions.
It is also used in fertilizer.
China has cut back in shipping Urea.
Australia and Europe are currently experiencing shortages of both DEF and fertilizer.
At first I thought this was just utube FUD but it does appear to be real. -
Pamela1990 Thanks this.

I suspect the CCP needs it for fertilizer.
HiramKingWilliams and Pamela1990 Thank this.
