Putting a big X on all of it. This is the official last straw. Been looking for one lately. I’m almost glad it happened. Not surprised at all. It’s my fault for taking the load. I got in a hurry to make a cut off loading time. Didn’t read the fine print till later.
Detention/Layover on booked load - lesson learned.

Any chance of naming the receiver and broker? Save us all a future headache.
rollin coal, Rideandrepair and gokiddogo Thank this. -
That's a raw deal. Hourly at $40 would be $960/day - I'd be OK with that.
The broker not including the 'detention becomes layover at a lesser rate' part is BS.
I'd never pull another load like that, but I've had to learn a few 'first time/last time' lessons myself. I don't blame you for getting ready to hang it up.
I had one with GE - wind farm project in OK I was delivering some pretty simple stair case units to. 36 hours to unload what they could have pulled off with a forklift. Instead they had us drive them 6 miles or so on gravel roads to where the windmill was going to go.
First they cried weather, then safety meetings, told us we couldn't stay in the yard overnight, so bobtailed 10 miles to the closest town that had no truck stop. It was pretty frustrating, the other driver they directed into a poorly prepped drive where he sunk up to the axles and had to be wreckered out.
Then I discover the detention is 'first 8 hours free' then some layover crap. I never asked about it going in, which taught me to always ask it later. I doubt I'll ever bother with a wind farm anything in future.Siinman, Opendeckin and Rideandrepair Thank this. -

Well I talked to the receiver. Very sincere young man. Has family in Trucking. He said the Shipper and Brokers are the problem. I was shocked!! Lol. I figured the Shipper was pushing loads on them. It’s a steady supply, but only taken as room becomes available. So of course they know exactly what the deal is, and what on average they can get away with. I’m expecting some BS now that it’s delivered. Waiting on a new ratecon. Will update with results and names of receiver and other Brokers involved. Hopefully others can avoid getting into this trap. I have no problem taking a chance, if the Brokers honest and upfront. Fair enough. But when they play games like this, they need to be exposed. The big lie here was the imaginary appointment. It’s 24 hr check in and FCFS. I could have gotten in earlier, maybe gotten unloaded sooner. The imaginary appointment time of 4:00 pm. helps insure limiting Layover and detention pay, since it’s 8 hr. max before being considered Layover. First mention of layover was after arrival, nothing in Ratecon or new Contract mentions layover after 8 hrs max detention. Broker says $40 hr. Receiver has a special form stating $35 hr. detention starting 2 hrs after time of original check in. If that’s true, Broker collects $35x39. Total $1369.00.

I screwed up. No doubt. Had 150 Mile DH. 4:00 cut off time. Arrived at 3:20. I started rolling before getting the ratecon. Stopped along the way and signed it. I can live with that. I’m not perfect. Taking chances, means occasionally paying the price. Fair enough. A load like this can really cause problems for a single O/O though. Potentially tying up a Trailer for a week or more. Apparently it’s a common thing at this place. According to Loves employees 2 and even 3 weeks. I’m not going to let it get me upset. It’s done. Much more important things to focus on. However Brokers shenanigans need to be exposed. Can’t complain about getting bit by a snake after picking it up. You knew it was a snake to begin with.

One last irony. First time I ever dealt with Coyote involved very bad communication. Some 19 years and 2000 loads ago, I had all wrong info, ended up waiting hours for that load, while only 1 hr from home. Fell asleep waiting. They paid detention, and I rarely work with them since. Anyway as they say, It’s all good, everything’s cool dude. No need to be ill’n. Best to be chillin. Catch you later. Yeah I heard that, in a minute Bro.
Siinman Thanks this.
