Imagine the whining from drivers if the govt increased or mandated every DOT regulated driver have a lot more time off. "They're taking food off of my table. I can't pay my bills. What does my work from X days ago have to do with being ready to work today, etc. "

The biggest problem of the two periods of 1am to 5am requirement was that on Mondays, you'd have 2.1 million truckers starting their day at 0500am and contributing to big city gridlock.

Some drivers are unhappy unless they drive more miles/make more $ than anyone else. Other drivers are not in competition to make the high score or they don't need/want to spend as many minutes as possible at work. Working nights was mostly awesome if you made getting rest a priority. If you didn't get your rest, and most of the world is asking you to not get that rest in various ways, it would be terrible. I'd rather work nights on the roads than days and it's no comparison. Who wouldn't like less traffic and more room between vehicles while doing this job?

Wait until every school delays starting and all the school busses are added to morning and afternoon rush hour.

So what? Traffic and gridlock are a fact of life. We're truckers. See, the problem here isn't the traffic and the gridlock and it wasn't even the fact that drivers felt forced to take 48 hours to get a 34 hour reset. The problem is the low pay and always thinking you gotta race that clock.

The point was that before that 1am to 5am requirement, truckers were able to start their fresh 70 hour clock whenever it was done, not waiting til 5 am on Monday to flood the roads.
