What's it like to go from driving a medium duty (less than 26,000lb gvw) truck to driving in a regular vehicle? Is it different for bigger vehicles such as a semi?

Unfortunately a lot of non professional drivers drive the medium and heavy duty like they do their regular car! To answer your question, after you drive big trucks enough, you sort of develop into having one pace, and that’s take your time and hold your line to put it simply.
I told my Dad I’d never drive a diesel regular vehicle as they are too slow and boring. My gas powered is faster and fun. Here I am driving an f350 dually with a 7.3 diesel. lol. smhp608, TripleSix, Kyle G. and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sounds like you are doing a rental truck. Surprisingly, a box truck like you describe, isn't much different than a big pickup, with certain limitations, of course. Height being the biggest one( watch that overhang at the Sonic)The biggest difference from a car, being higher up, it gives you a clearer view of the road ( if there isn't another truck in front of you, that is) and you have to get used to being at ground level again. You'll be fine.

I catch myself reaching for a shifter or the dash to flip on the jakes when coming up to an exit . . . when I’m driving the pick up truck.

After being out for a while when I'm driving the wife's van or my truck I catch myself turning the wheel the wrong way when I back up. So used to having a trailer behind me
