So I’m going through the order sheet of a new fridge, basically just doing minor changes to an already O/O spec, and they have disc brakes on the order form, been a while since I had discs on anything but the last time I had disc on a tractor and drum on a trailer I remember the trailer would lock up easier under a harder (but not panic) brake situation, don’t know if they are different crack pressures or if it’s just the equipment I was driving, just curious if anyone had the same experience or if maybe I just wasn’t used to the set up.

cliff notes, anyone have a tractor with drum brakes and a trailer with disc and have any problems?

    Oxbow and NightWind Thank this.

Have O/O's with drum that pull my disc trailers. No problem, same as the opposite way. Just have to be careful on long, steep down grades. The drums heat far more than the discs.

I drove a tractor with drums and a trailer with discs, never had an issue. Also driven vise versa and have had the trailer tires skid a few times. It's easy to correct once you learn how much pressure to put on the pedal

Discs were definitely impressive, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to be causing a different set of issues

I’m one to always drop an extra half a gear and just stay off the brakes completely if possible any way

    Oxbow and Siinman Thank this.

Have Disc on front of tractor and drums on back of tractor with Disc Brakes on Dry Van. Never had any issues on my feet up. I did however have an issue with drums on my old truck and rented trailer after installing new pads on trailer. Should be good to go.

Disc are way more better. Wondering home much effort FMCSA making to govern the speed instead to mandate to make all new trucks and trailers with disc brakes only. How much effort government make to forbidden idling and lover the emissions instead to mandate equip all new sleeper trucks with bunk heaters....

My tractor is disc, and I pull variable trailers with drums, ZERO issues.
