They do off road trucking which is more challenging than Ice Road Trucking.

Fudex and YRC drivers don't even have to back to hook their pups together...their yard helpers have it all ready to go. All they have to do is Get in, Sit down, Shut the door, and Hold on.

Seriously though, ethos is right. Getting good at backing is the same as how musicians get to Carnegie Hall....practice, practice, practice. I see plenty of drivers out here that can't back...and even after 22 years out here I have my days when I couldn't back into the broad side of a barn. Some of my worst failed attempts are when I am trying to back into a wide open group of empty spots.

Nope. Lol. It takes time to learn how to back. It took me a year before I was comfortable enough to do it correctly. You'll be fine.

You don't need to worry if you can back or not. Just go to a local truckstop and you will find the answer to your question. There are plenty out there that don't know how to back that is why they park on the fuel islands when there is still plenty of parking in the parking lot. I would say you would be in good company, and like the others said most of us sucked at backing when we first started.

You may do lousy at backing during the CDL exam and pre-hire road test and get hired. But if you can't demonstrate even distant, remote abilities to back you could have a hard time being hired but at the very least you will remain with a trainer until you get "decent" at backing.

It doesn't make any difference what type of tucking you do, sooner or later you're going to find yourself in a position where a difficult back is required. And you need to have acquired basic backing skills before you get to this point or you're going to be in a bad situation.

Would you want to fly with a pilot who only knew how to land on big runways with auto landing systems, but could not land manually unless it was a 4 mile long runway?

    Get good or get out.

CR England will hire you and promote you to a safe driver and a trainer if you can manage to hit something why backing at least once a month.
