    Hello Truckers,
Hopefully this is in the right forum. Me and my wife are preparing for a new career in trucking and we would like some advise from those who know. When we start applying at companies we want to maximize our chances of being hired somewhere. Based on that, should we get our CDL's from the truck driving school down the road and then have zero experience, or should we just do the programs the companies have where they send you to their school to get your cdl? Logic tells me that doing the school prior and having the cdl already would maximise our chances but there is is a problem if we do that:

If we did the school down the road it would be done one of us at a time while the other works and pays bills. That would mean that there would be around half a year between when we got the cdl and then before we start applying. Does that matter?

    Thank you,

You can apply at companies that run teams right out of their own cdl school or you can attend school first while your wife continues work and then she could start cdl school while you're earning a paycheck as a solo driver. When she graduates, she can hire on with your company and you be her trainer.

    Prime Inc. Team Drivers
Team Drivers. Interested in teaming up with another driver? Team drivers at Prime enjoy a variety of benefits including increased earning potential.
Prime refrigerated drivers make real good money for new drivers. School is in Springfield, MO
You can start there and when all your training, school & OTR is complete, then your wife can start and you be her trainer.

Husband/wife teams are highly sought after by trucking companies.

There's no need to waste your time on bottom of the barrel outfits.

They live in Oklahoma; what are some other choices?
Maybe Bulkley Trucking, but they'd have to attend cdl school on their own first.

Is Hobby Lobby a good choice for husband/wife teams?

I'd do the company training route. Cheaper, if not free, and you'll have to train alot with them regardless. My 1st trucking job was with cfi in 2008. They had skid- pad training on were concrete that was awesome. Wonder if they still do that.

    Drumright,OK ?

Honestly - I think that's a great idea, if the school is local, and you can do it in 'shifts' to get your license.

After that I'd be heading off to Parsons,KS to Old Dominion - or check Hobby Lobby in OKC.

Teams are valuable and ODFL pays about the highest that I know of as a company driver.
