I’ve often thought one could set up a drone to “follow me” and use it just for that purpose... just a simple over head shot that one could then access from an iPad screen in the cab.
I bet there’s a way, or a way could be developed, to “tag” the truck with a tracker and just auto program the drone to fly to a certain height and shoot the tagged truck ... send it out the drivers window, and return to said same window...
GOAL ... high tech version -
Had one flying over my house out in the country by a realtor it got shot down. I was taken to court and judge said to bad and dismissed case they wanted 2 grand to replace it.
Rocks, TokyoJoe and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this. -
I see some you tube truckers using them when there parked up doing a tour of where there parked

@catalinaflyer was an early adopter, but IIRC, his carrier had some concerns.

You got lucky. Drones are aircraft. Firing at an aircraft is a federal offense with serious consequences.
FAA Confirms Shooting A Drone Is A Federal Crime. So When Will U.S. Prosecute?Pamela1990 and not4hire Thank this. -
They probably shouldn't be flying the drone over someone else's private property then. I'm pretty sure that most juries out in the country would agree.
jason6541 Thanks this. -
Especially at less than 100 feet and house for sale was 1/2 mile down the road. Keep thx ####ing drones away we won’t have a problem. See another I will shoot it down as well

FAA controls the space above everything on the ground.
That guy got lucky at avoiding prosecution, likely due to the novelty of drones and that enforcement has not become regularized yet.
This is going to change very quickly especially with commercial applications for drones growing. Big corporations like Amazon aren’t going to tolerate having their drones shot down. They will use their influence to make sure those who do go to prison.Pamela1990, Midlife Trucker and not4hire Thank this. -
Airplanes and helicopters fly over private property. Can you shoot one down?
