It really was not bad when I was with them until I had to take a few days off to take a parent to the hospital, was told not to come back because it took 3 days of home time, when I see all they say about caring for family I ask whose?

That's harsh and a bit weird. I would think with a heads up they would take your situation in account, maybe need to clean out the truck and be prepared to be assigned a new truck on your return.

I have been the go to guy for every carrier. It has worked out well for me. When there were 10 drivers trying to get loads, but only 9 loads, I would be the first to be assigned a load. If they had a hot load that paid better, I'd usually get it. I was assigned better equipment, and it showed on my paycheck.
I could never imagine not helping out for fear that they would always assign crappy loads.Last edited: Dec 19, 2017
Lepton1 and Farmerbob1 Thank this. -
Depends on the company. Some will, some won't. Document the reason for your out of route miles.
-
If I am understanding right, there was a live unload at 1100. And a live load on the next trip at 1200.
That really isn't very doable in most cases. He would almost certainly have been late for his 1200 load.
So. Refusing the local load to save the long load might have been the right call. -
You will get paid for 90% of the Miles you drive, on average, win Swift. They pay deadhead miles for both company and lease. You’ll usually find the most accurate miles are the ones that pay the least. And when there looks like a decision in your favor regarding how many paid miles you’re getting, it’s because it knocked you down to the lower pay band.

And yes, I get paid for all miles. By the hub.
