Just wondering how many people turn off their reefers right as they dock or if you at least wait for them to open their doors from the dock ?

    Depends..
If I am delivering a frozen load and it's cold enough to kill penguins outside.. I turn it off. Generally I leave it on. I don't need anyone accusing me for a load claim in exchange for a little fuel saved.

I’m new to reefer, usually when I leave it on while docked it goes into defrost mode once and temp raise inside, and makes the unit work more for nothing doesn’t it ?
I’m guessing that’s not the case with your units?

Nope. I like to have it going while I am back there sweating in the 110 degree heat. Nothing like a Florida Conditioner driven by 200 horses. And if i happen to cool off 30 more besides then alls well. A gallon or two of fuel does not bother me as it might bother scrooge at Christmas.

I turn my reefer off as soon as I am leaving my last stop and all the product is off. Beautiful feeling.

Let the receiver decide whether to turn it off or not.
If you turn it off without asking; the receivers have a habit of calling the broker/shipper and demanding a discount on the load because the temp wasn't what is called for on the BOL. Then your company gets the bill for the difference because their driver decided to turn the reefer off.

Running reefer in some cases will warm up inside because it pulls air from the rear of the trailer which is mostly outside air .. I still ask and do what receiver wants though
