If you're over 12,000 on your steers will pre pass always give you a red light because it's monitored by a computer?
Does DOT allow for fuel weight

there are some times where adding more weight to my drives will take weight off my steers. at 32k on my drives i am heavier on my steers than with 42k on my drives without moving my 5th wheel..............because at 42k on my drives i would have my pusher axle down....lol
-
You're saying to bring your tandems back not forward to put more weight on the drives?
How much weight does 1 hole take off the steers? -
not what i am saying at all...lol i have a 3rd axle in my drive axle group, because it is ahead of my king pin it lifts some weight off my steers when i put it down.
sliding your trailer tandems forward will take a weight off your drives witch will also take a fraction of the weight off your steers. the way to adjust steer axle weight is by sliding your 5th wheel on the truck. forward to add weight to the steers, back to take weight off the steers.
different 5th wheel setups use different spacing on the locks so the amount of weight transfered per hole will varry from truck to truck -
I wouldn't say "always" but it is highly likely. My current load is 33,460 on the drives, got 75 gallons at the Pilot I-40x39 NM, going westbound into the AZ scales, prepass redlighted me. I was thinking, 'oops too much fuel' but it was 33,860 or something, she waved me on through. So the sensors in the road definitely can and will redflag a truck.

You were 140 pounds from the limit on the drives so you were good.

How were you on your steer and trailer axles? As long as you were under the 80K gross limit you were gravy.Jdm5jdm5 Thanks this. -
Those road sensors are remarkably accurate if you hit them just right.
Colorado I 70 entering from Utah. I know I am heavy on drives just got fuel at Green River. I decided I was going to test them that day. Prepass red light. Go over scale they stop me for each axle group.
11300...34300..34000
Their computer I could see had me red flagged in it said tandem weight 34300 ... same as the static scale showed. Got a clean level 3 ... they were pretty cool there.Jdm5jdm5 and scottied67 Thank this. -
Just wondering for the future if I was over 12000 on the steers, even though I'm likely good up to 12500 would I likely get red lighted on pre pass for being a pound over 12000? -
If you've been driving for a while you should already know the answer to that one, some Dot are ok once you explain some are not, it really just depends in which state your in and which officer is on duty i've been 1200lb over on the drive axles and never got a ticket the officer just let me go slide the axles and reweigh If your in Oregon or Ca i'd be abit more vigilant.Jdm5jdm5 Thanks this.

Your guess is as good as mine. My company doesn't have Prepass so unless we get the bypass or closed signal we have to hit every scale house that's open.Jdm5jdm5 Thanks this.
