Sorry, I misunderstood. Yeah, Swift requires at least 6 weeks, no exceptions.

Swift training is 6 weeks with a Mentor. I asked the recruiter if, because I had previous experience, would I have to do the whole 6 weeks. She stated that I did, that everyone who requires going with a Mentor has to.

However, I've been told by a coupe of drivers, and one Mentor, that that isn't set in stone, but the recruiters are required to say that.

We'll see. I'm mindset for 6 weeks, plus 5 days of orientation (2 days of securement), without home time. So if it's shorter, or I get a home visit, that will just be a plus.

If cruisecontrol's friend couldn't hack one more week, he probably wouldn't have made it out there, anyway.

Oh, yeah. I'm off to Greer SC for orientation on Monday (4/19). Talking to my recruiter yesterday, she said she was still waiting for a flatbed Mentor for me, and it would still be a while. So I said what if I went van? At that, she said there was a opening on Monday. So I asked for that slot, and will switch over to flatbed when I can.

I had already talked to the training manager at Greer, about this. He said "No problem". He'll have me do the securement training next Thurs. & Fri., and then I'll go out with a van Mentor. They'll switch me to a fb Mentor as soon as possible, during the 6 weeks.

    So, I'm off!!:biggrin_25514:

my friend isnt driving truck now. he went to swift to pull van and flatbed. told him 6 weeks of both with a trainer. then they took .01 cent from him for each trainer. Claims he couldnt get along with his trainer and swift wouldnt change that. but i personally have my ideas why he couldnt make it. none the less tho, he couldnt make it.

Jim, I just finished orientation last week with swift in Lancaster Tx, got on a truck with a mentor then next day. I was in the Lancaster terminal yesterday when the new orientation for this week was concluded, and I saw alot of ppl going out with mentors (the mentors were wearing those funny blue shirts lol) Mine refuses to wear his.
Another thing, if you have OTR experience, they will give you a road test during orientation, to determine if you need either 2 or 6 weeks with a trainer. If your already familiar with the Qualcomm, and you pass the road test they left it up to you, if you feel you need the 2 weeks or not....BigT

I wouldn't listen to what your friend says and give it any merit...nothing, as you have stated is even close to correct. if he was with a L/O Mentor, that Mentor gets 5 cpm deducted from his pay...it's in his contract addendum for being a Mentor...

another case of "it isn't my fault nobody does it my way"!

I'm going out tonight with a mentor (April 19) finally. My son just turned 11 months old today and I was hoping to leave sooner so the 6 weeks training would be over just in time for his first birthday party....

    Quick update...

Through with orientation today, and did get placed in flatbed. Do the laod securement training tomorrow and Friday, then out with a Mentor.

As for the 2 or 6 week thing, it's not based on just the road test. Everyone had to take the test. To get the 2 week option, you do have to pass the test, but your experience has to be recent.

Anyway, I'll post more about Swift fb when I can.

What test do you have to take? And how much recent experience in what amount of time ?

The road test (only test) consisted all of basically driving around a block. There were 4 drivers and the instructor in the truck. It was a very simple exercise. They are just looking to make sure you can shift and maneuver safely.

I didn't hear or see any definite time frame for the recent exp. requirement, but my recruiter had at one point asked about any exp. in past 2 years.

I think if you have 6 months or more, with no more time than 30 days out of a seat, you could skip the Mentor time, but I'm not positive. 2 of the drivers in the class who don't have too much experience took a 2 week Mentor option. One because he didn't do a lot of backing at his last job, and one to get more experience with using the Qualcom.

Also note, the road test most likely will vary at different terminals.
