Wow, Are you buying your oil in 55 gallon drums or something? That's really cheap for everything

Try looking for filters and oil at places other than the dealer if you're going to do it yourself.

It's not just about money, but knowing that it was done right. Last oil change we had oil all over the driver side engine compartment, as well as being shorted a gallon. It cost $329 at the dealership, but now I'm stuck wondering what else they could've screwed up while doing it, plus having to clean up their mess.

Ruthless, Oxbow and blairandgretchen Thank this.

I buy my oil from a local oil distributor. It’s there “House Blend”. Last time I check it was about 7.50 a gallon. I use to run Chevron Delo for years..... and since they changed there formula, I was starting to get more blow by than normal. So I took my oil distributors advice and went to there house synthetic blend, it exceeded the specs.... and was almost half the price of Delo. And all my “blow by” disappeared.

That’s why it’s preferable to changed your own oil.

    Oxbow and AModelCat Thank this.

How many miles does everybody do between oil changes? My last job it was every 18,000. When I use to work for Gordon, it was every 10,000. That was a pain in the butt.

It’s easy enough, I do it myself.

    I use Schaefer’s 15-40 7000 in 30 gallon drums.

I buy filters bulk from my mechanic at his cost, a 15 gallon pan with hand pump, and have the used oil picked up.

Amsoil Bypass filtration and samples at 10,000 miles - has me changing oil typically 2-3 times a year at 30-40k intervals depending on oil condition.

    Sirscrapntruckalot and Oxbow Thank this.
