Update- they managed to get the bridge opened back up temporarily over the weekend. The bridge was wider than the roadway with wide shoulders. They shifted the travel lanes to the right side and off of the damaged section. It’s still got a beam missing and temporary supports underneath until they can fix it right.

That's a cheap bridge don't they usually go big when they can pretty much plan on someone else paying the tab?

They won’t replace the bridge just the beam, it’s not as simple as the state just demanding the bridge be replaced. The insurance company will have have their engineers involved as well as the state and the will make a plan.

They probably did but it doesn’t work that way, at least not around here. No different than a car wreck. Just because you want a new car doesn’t mean you’ll get one if yours can be fixed.

They might want that but there are laws that determine the liability in this case, if the state's bridge can be made whole by a repair and that repair can be done properly for less money than it costs to replace the bridge than that is the limit of the company's liability.

Just like liability limits in car accidents, if you run into my truck and tear up the hood, I don't get to just make you buy me a new truck, unless you do enough damage to total the truck.

TripleSix, Oxbow and johndeere4020 Thank this.
