    Unfortunately, in the U.S., trucking is already considered a Proffesion and/or Skilled Labor.
    Unfortunately, in the U.S., it does not.
    Unfortunately, in the U.S., there is a 100% chance that this will NOT happen.

    To OP, 20 years of trucking, you must love it very much! Concerning your comment about the guy trying to control your every move-- No One can make you do anything you don't want to do. No One can make you feel any way you don't want to feel. In other words only you choose what you do, what you feel. You love to drive, so drive-- your way. The company will adjust and trust you because of your years of experience or they won't. No big deal so you move on and fit in somewhere else that works for you...
