Door swinging sucks

A lot of our doubles are Maniac trailers, although we have some old ones with steel A-frames that aren't as much fun...in fact, some are down right scary up front because they don't have full decks up front, just a wide frame and some flimsy aluminum fenders I wouldn't trust putting my full weight on.

 

We have a few of those scary ones also. When I reference the Metler design, I am referring to various brands of trailers but they were spec’d and designed by Tony Metler. He had ties to your company as well as to Flannary and Sons and was a very knowledgeable glass hauler. I know your company uses some of those trailers because I have seen them being loaded in Laurinburg and other places. In any case, the trailers he designed are just functional. When I load one I recognize that someone who understood what they were doing designed it. Some of the others we have were evidently designed by someone sitting behind a desk who had never hauled a piece of glass in their life.

 

Ahh...I am fairly new to glass hauling, so even though I have been trucking for 20+ yrs, I feel like a stone cold rookie after moving over to this type of freight.

We have a newer type double I haven't pulled yet. It has an aluminum nose cone and a track system for the main tarp with ratchet strap tiedowns instead of shoelaces.

The ELD cheerleaders make me laugh. Why don’t you guys try running 1.1 placard trucks for awhile? Out of hours? That’s cute. I can’t leave my truck until it’s empty, period. Not even to take a ####. 11, 14, 16, 20... rules are made up and hours don’t matter. Oh, you worked 18 hours today, and only had 6 hours off duty to rest before your next trip? Your truck broke, and ran out of hours due to the delay? Sorry, you get to your destination by XX:XX time or else. Let the boss just get on the computer and adjust your logs for you so you can keep going. Best not be stopping until the job is done, we have customers to please! ELDs don’t change anything when the right (wrong) people are at the helm. Wake up. The mandate’s only purpose is to artificially raise prices, and help the railroads. Once again, why I’m buying my own pre-ELD rig, and flatbedding it. That way I can tell people to go to hell when they want everything for nothing extra.
