If you get the good ones , the ones the manufacturers install at the factory , I find that those last a long time.

I had heard people say Compressor based fridges are better, but I'm wondering after reading this thread if Thermoelectrics might be more durable?
Are Compressor units more power efficient, but the trade off is they might be less durable? -
I bought a decent size one from Lowe’s with separate fridge and freezer door. Ran it off a 2000w inverter for 5 years and no issues. Removed cabinet in truck and it fit like a glove. My girlfriend has the same fridge and inverter going on 3 years also trouble free. My truck was an 03 Columbia, hers a 99 century.

Thermoelectric models only cool a certain amount below room temperature. A compressor unit can freeze.

Well worth the trouble! I used a 12v Coleman for a decade and those things only get about 25 degrees cooler than the ambient temp. For the last 8 years or so I’ve always had trucks with factory fridges and I’ve never had a single issue with any of them.
Just knowing what I know I’d find a used factory fridge out of truck and run with it. They’re obviously designed with the rigors of bouncing down the road factored in. -
Take the easy way out. Get one from Walmart. Try and get one with a fridge door and a freezer door. Put it in the upper bunk, sideways so the doors open to the side of the truck and not forward. This allows you to use 2, not 1 but use 2 ratchet straps to go around the top of the fridge and around the bunk to hold it in place. Also, go-to the baby Isle at Walmart, get a 2 pack of baby locks to secure the freezer and fridge door so they stay shut.
