Do's and Don't when pulling into a truck stop?

....like these guys?

The tanker yanker was a fat lazy f#*!. I watched him pull in (there are only 2 pumps w/ satellites at this fuel stop....he pulled into one of them). Didn't buy fuel...just waddled his fat ### into the store to buy junk food & a 2 liter of coke. PLENTY of space away from the fuel pumps where he COULD have parked....

The flatbed driver, I don't know what his story was...he was there when I showed up and I had to wait for him to come out and move before I could fuel. The other 3 pumps had trucks actively fueling.

 

7 and 8 is bad enough, but #9 was done to me at the J in Rawlins Wy. Went to go hide in the very back on the dirt, hoping for a quiet night, only to have a thrashing machine come disrupt my zzz's.

The way he "secured" that load says alot.

 

I've thought for a while we outta start a picture thread for these important people who park at the fuel island. Just so everyone else can see how important they are.

 

I have pulled to the other side of the island, but I had to pee really bad.

I will admit to being guilty of falling asleep with my lights on. Sometimes it's driving through states requiring headlights on through construction zones even in the daytime. Other times I start driving at 2am and forget to shut the headlights off when it gets light out. Really don't do it on purpose, sometimes driving for 10 hours my brain gets tired and all I can think about is hitting the rack. I got a dry erase marker and will leave notes to myself on the windows to remember to do stuff when I park.

I HATE seeing trash in the parking lots. just fing lazy.

Also, it's a small thing, but whats with socks and sandals? Please explain.

 

I just wanted to add that while doing those jumping jacks and workout routine, you should be parked in the blue handicapped zone so you're close to the truck stop doors and are a motivational tool (he said TOOL hehe) to the other truckers coming and going.

 

I pulled into the TA in Duncan, SC at around 19:30 on a weekday. Apparently that place fills up quick. (Forget about the Pilot across the street.) After 2 laps around the lot without finding a space I came upon 2 adjacent full size spaces with bobtails in them. I pulled the brakes and went up to the doors. One had the curtains pulled and was dark. The other I could see a light and TV on in the sleeper, so I knocked.

The occupant looked... inconvenienced at best, but his expression changed slightly when he realized that at least I wasn't a trying to sell him sex or hand him the latest edition of Watchtower.

I explained my story and asked kindly if he wouldn't mind moving in behind the other bobtail. He said "I kind of liked my angle here." I replied in a non-sarcastic tone "Hey, if you don't want to move that's fine." I also added a genuine "Sorry to bother you." He told me to make sure no one pulled into either spot, and proceeded to move.

With three or four other trucks circling the parking lot, I did not want to take the time to go around for a good setup, so I did the best I could. A driver on the other side reading a book would look up occasionally and assure me that I had plenty of room on my blind side while the guy I was backing in next to watched nervously as I threatened to adjust his mirrors for him. After about 10 minutes I got it in there nice and square.

At the risk of annoying the bobtail guy again, I went over and knocked. I thanked him again for moving for me and asked him if I could get him a soda or anything from inside. He declined and told me he was glad he could help out a fellow driver.

I like when other drivers will go out of their way to help spot me in, even if it's obvious I don't need it, and more often than not, I will do the same for others. It's just decent human behavior, but I also get satisfaction out of it. It's a shame that stuff like that is a rarity, but it's very nice to come across. Ha, I was at the supermarket with my mother the other day. I went and bagged groceries for the lady in front of us in line. Yes, I did it partially to get us out of there faster, but regardless of my reasons, she appreciated it all the same.

 

I hope for his family's sake he has lots of life insurance!
