Must not have been as great a company as he thought. No further posts in quite a while.

They actually sent me a postcard saying they we're declining on me at the time. I have a ticket from last year, with these times we're in I would say that's reasonable. Nice gesture on their part to even say anything.

..it's too bad they don't follow-up when they start a new thread like this; maybe he'll show up some day & tell us what happened to his "team"? :biggrin_25511:

Since I applied with them I noticed those "team" players aren't the most friendly people on the road. In other words there all ticked about something......next !

Yeah, i would have to agree---i'm a former foodservician. It's not all fun and games/rolling hills and storybook sunsets. If, however, you get a decent route and get into a groove, then you may have something.

Well let me say I will take up this thread since the original author seems to have disappeared and I do drive for DOT foods. They are a very good company to work for in fact. I will address some of the comments made here by others as well. This is by far the best company i have ever worked for in the 10 years i have been driving a truck and i have worked for several. They pay me well, treat me well, i have great benefits, and i am home 1 day during the week and 2 days every weekend. yeah I know you think it sounds to good to be true, well so did i when i first was told all this by the transportation mgr when i did my first interview. So I talked to a bunch of the drivers whenever i could to find out from the drivers themselves and sure enough they confirmed, so i said ok maybe a good deal after all. Well I went through 3 more interviews before finally being offered a job. I have been there over a year now and i am very glad to be here and in the position i'm in. Now i'll address some of the comments below.

Yes Guarantee of $50k your first yr. The half driving half unloading is not accurate as you stated it. You do get paid to unload our own truck however it does not come close to half your salary it really depends on what types of runs you like to do. They are very flexible and work with your needs. what i mean is if you want more miles less loads you'll get it. If you want more loads less miles you'll get it. More loads you do and less miles means that unloading pay will be a higher portion of your income and vice versa. Oh and by the way our loads pay very well and averaged out to an hourly rate would be $30 - $80 per hour when unloading. No brainer to me. I personally run more miles and i only unload about a half a truck a week. See there are some of our loads that we get paid for every case on the truck and may only touch a few of them. When you start out you will unload alot but after 4-5 months i got into a couple regular runs and i mainly drive now. we also get paid detention time after 2 hrs, pickup pay, layover pay ( you don't get laid over ) stop pay for every stop, etc......As far as slip seating goes, the only drivers that slip seat are in Illinois at our Home terminal and most of them are part-time drivers. I was assigned a truck after training / orientation and have had the same truck ever since.

Yes I care to disagree. You are correct for the most part but, you will always have lazy people who slip through your system no matter how well you screen them. DOT advertises but we have a very low turnover rate. Reason they advertise is simple as stated above and some people might seem right but after 6 months of doing it realize they just don't want to or whatever there are several reasons that even good companies have turnover. . It is not nearly the rate of most but still will always be some. Not every job is right for every person no matter how good it is. We have great benefits that are very inexpensive, 40 hrs ( 1 wk) of sick time yearly, 40 hrs (1 wk) of personal time both after 90 days and 2 weeks paid vacation after 1 yr, and 9 paid holidays if i remember correctly and great hometime.

Not true at all. Our fleet average in Indiana has over 10 years OTR experience.

They are very picky about who they hire. 95 out of 100 apps get turned down.

Not sure what happened to orginal poster but the company is great.

I'll tell you this. If you try to talk to them on the cb 9 times out of 10 you won't because alot of times we run company channel or alot of guys don't have theirs on at all. Alot of the guys also have their trucks cut back so they get the speed bonuses so they figure no need to worry about bears so no need to listen to all the BS on the radio. I am not ticked about anything I love my job and make great money. In fact i'm quite happy. The ones that aren't friendly are probably just returning the sentiments they receive from you as for some reason it seems maybe you have a negative attitude towards them since you were not hired. Maybe not but your first couple post were nice and professional but this one was kinda like F*** them. Only you know for sure. Must be doing something right our safestat is 31.

Your absolutely right. It's not great at first but but once you get in a groove it really is a good gig.

Am i saying this is the greatest job in the world? No but it is the best one i've had in this industry. Is it for everybody? No.

General Electric (GE) was advertising for laborers and machinist at their locomotive engine plant. I think the lowest grunt laborer makes $60K a year with a benefits package that will make your head spin.

The statement that advertising = bad employer, is a gross generalization.
